no, in this case it's obviously the fault of the father!

Jpet-

Question:

1. You used a Bronco II gear box correct? Part number?
2. When you relocated the 4.3 power steering pump did you use a different bracket? How did you get it to mount that high to make clearance?
3. What joints etc did you use to attach the column to the box?

Thanks,
 Justin

IDK the part number but any bronco from the 80’s will get you what you want.
Quote ....2. When you relocated the 4.3 power steering pump did you use a different bracket? How did you get it to mount that high to make clearance?....
it is a custom bracket. My buddy Steve, just put the pump where he thought it needed to be and then made a bracket based on the existing holes.

..... I have had to change the position a little since first design when I tilted the motor forward for more belly clearance.
Quote ....3. What joints etc did you use to attach the column to the box? ....

I’m not sure. It all came with the unfinished project I got from early 46. There are detailed photos on page 16.

I should probably bring this thread up to speed. More changes over the past months. First, the seats:

I wanted bomber seats but I also wanted something that had a vintage feel so I went with this design. The harness is 5 point. Originally, it was completely modular where you did not need to use the shoulder straps but I found this to be a pain so I sewed the shoulder straps to the lap belts. In the next picture, you can see both seats with the alterations. Taller seat backs and both seats are raised and lean back farther. Now I have more leg room and a lot more comfort without cutting out the wheel wells.

.... at first it was hard to get used to being held back in the seat with the harness but now I am used to it and I feel more comfortable being strapped in on and off road.

..... more ....

.... not only did I raise the seats up for more leg room, I also raised the passenger seat so that I can fit a battery under it:

The 4.3 takes up so much room that I couldn’t get a full sized battery under the hood. I’ve gotten by with it until I put the M8000 winch up front and that small battery just couldn’t keep up. Problem solved. Not pictured is a canvas cover for the battery.

Sliders:

..... yes, I had to push some dents out

I tried to make them as subtle as possible and not heavy.

..... more .....

I also put some reinforcement in the grill:

.... I still want to stabilize it by changing the head light brackets and bring them down to the shock towers. Sort of a stealth front hoop to protect the radiator on a roll over .... speaking of that,....

yes, we rolled over again in Sand Hollow
.... didn’t get hurt. The harness held me in place, the new windshield supported the vehicle just fine and even though there was a little fluid leakage, the new gas tank did not leak, and the tranny fluid stayed in the tranny.   It took about 15 minutes to recover and get rolling again.

..... finally, a dual channel radio:

I think that’s mostly it for now.   As someone pointed out on YouTube, there have been some changes through the last 5 years:

Almost forgot. I got tired of tearing up my summer top when I’m in the woods so I made another canopy just for woods wheeling as shown in the last pic. Thanks for reading.

Hey Jeff just an FYI...if you have your new radio wired to BAT hot you might check the current draw when its off. There are 2 other guys besides me who have discovered that they pull current even when turned off. I wired mine to IGN hot and all is well now. Good radio other than that.

FWIW,
Mike

Thanks Mike, I’ll keep that in mind. It’s plugged into the phone charger for now. I’d like to incorporate one of the blue tooth hands free systems available. I see they have a Bluetooth mic (BT-89). I wonder if it could be modified to use with a tactical headset like I have for my baofeng.

The world's trickest "stealth MB" gets even...more trick! Jeff, glad you survived the rollover without a scratch, proving the robustness of Bam-Bam's upgraded cage and new 5-point harness. Improving the breed through comprehensive "field testing," indeed!

Sorry, nobody was shooting video but you can see the recovery at the end of this video:

I think Sue took a shot of 4 paws in the air but I can’t find it. Maybe snave can post it.

Jeff surprised us by rolling over in a spot that no one expected so no one was filming. Everything he does is amazing. Even the places he rolls over are creative. Smile

This is 1/4” x 2” flange angle iron. The step is 1/4” thick. I’m try to keep the weight down. At first I thought about putting a half inch aluminum step plate on top to make it look taller but I kind of like them the way they are.   I sealed the top with silicone but left the bottom open for drainage.
