Dollar for dollar the Post Office has the best deal and fastest shipping times bar none! I'm glad you guys like the reflectors and the wires. I picked up another spool of Auto-Lite wire and some WWII suppressor ends to make some accurate MB/GPW style wires.
A word of caution on the wires don't rub them to hard on the printing or clean them with harsh chemicals. With the heat of the engine they will straighten out and form to the route you place them. I tried to locate the printing where it would be seen the most, near the plug and distributer cap. I also noticed in the cold the wax coating turned whitish with a little heat (blow dryer) it'll shine right up and wipe off.

Hey Matt.
When all of us get a life here in the states..(won't happen) and you move away to the big green,...Are you still going to be part of this 2A family you'll leave behind?

Time will tell, I don't think there is a Mini Cooper website or any other website that will compare to the 2Apage. I'll still own a 2A it'll just be far away. I won't make the mistake of selling it unless I absolutely have to. I've sold to many things in the past because I was tempted by the $$$. I used to own a mint late M151A2 with matching trailer that I sold and the day the eighteen wheeler came to pick it up I knew I was going to be sorry.

My reflector came in the mail today. Looks real nice. You'd have to be some kind of Jeep nut to recognize the difference. Thanks again Matt and Mike. Very good idea and follow through.

Got my reflectors in the mail today--hooray for flat-rate postage mailers!
No complaints, mind you, but on one of mine the backing "plug" is a bit loose, and I was wondering if that would let dust in behind the lens, degrading the reflective function. Would it make sense to epoxy those rings in so that no air and fine dust could enter behind the lens? Please believe me I am NOT complaining, just wondering about a little owner tweaking that might forestall a future problem. I remember seeing similar reflectors on farm implements and trucks years ago that were all caked full of dust on the inside from years of running on rusty roads. Of course, mine will not get too dusty sitting in the garage, but folks with long gravel driveways or rock crawlers might just want to think about sealing the back of the unit--never mind that it would not then be pristine factory original. I am a believer in improving where it can be done without detracting from the basic appearance of the old guys--being an old guy myself, I cosider myself an authority on these matters.

The backing plate still needs to be painted, once painted it might be a little tighter.

Since I posted the "seal 'em up" notion I began to think about humidity and all that. Would sealing them create a humidity lock of some sort that could lead to precipitation inside the lens and housing, and result in rusting from the inside out. Of course, if that took ten or fifteen years, maybe I should just join Alfred E. Newman and ask--"What? Me Worry?"

Del, i agree with Matt, after painting the backing plate, it should fit a little snugger, the one i painted and put in my chrome housing fit tighter after the paint, almost to the point i considered removing the paint...lol also, something else i have noticed, is that the back is a little less tight fitting with the aftermarket lens....i put an original Grotelite lens in both of mine, and the backs were both tight fits....try just painting with a good aerosol like Rustoleum or Krylon, and let me know what happens...low |

Ok...this brings up a question.
Since I don't recall that my original did had much/any paint on the backing plate (unless "rust" is a paint!), WHAT color would this piece be painted? Gloss black? But not on the "inside" face? That would cut down on the reflectivity, wouldn't it? As for sealing it to prevent "leakage", you might consider clear silicone. That wouldn't discolor the lens, and would prevent any rattling or other looseness. Thoughts? |

Probably overthinking this one a bit too much too......especially that one that Del's got that's gonna have a thunderstorm inside it.. (I couldn't help but picture it sorta like one of those little snowglobes)

i have an original back here, and it is a flat gray in color, both inside and out...as for sealing, it has a removable thin rubber gasket on the inside....low |
