You guys are probably thinking "Not another post about this!"
Right? Well, today I decided to pony up the cash and send it off to the glass company. Timeframe will be roughly 1 month for completion of the mold, and 2-3 weeks after that for some samples to be sent to me for approval. Hopefully we'll be enjoying new lenses around New Years. So for the first time in roughly 30 or 40 years we'll have replacement lenses. Currently I'm fairly close to the number of lenses I need sold to break even. Price per lens is $18. Here's a list of people who've spoken up/wanted lenses and the amount they wanted: Lomar15 2 Howard 2 usmcpmi 4 46socal 2 fritz 2 GaryArf 2 vtwillys 2 FBill 2 JokersCJ2A 2 Randy Snyder 6 timcj2a 4 cammer 2 dclear 2 If anyone else is interested please speak up. Morgan P.S. As a side note I was thinking the next thing that would be nice to have would be Corcoran Brown Headlamps. Hmmm... Edited by wyowillys46 - 27 Oct. 2006 at 9:50am |

Are these the frosted lenses?
I now have some good originals but at that price it's tempting...glad to see it's coming together for those in need. Good job! |

Morgan,
I'll throw my hat in the ring for 2 pair as back ups. I'm lucky in that both my 2A's have flawless lenses. Do you need payment ahead of time? And in what form? Thanks for the time and effort you have put into this endeavor. Tim |

Thanks for the backup tim. I like the scavenger hunt as much as the next guy but it's always nice to have new parts when you need them. You know?
I'm not asking for any payment up front. When the time comes, money orders will be the best. Edited by wyowillys46 - 24 Oct. 2006 at 9:02pm |

I look forward to seeing them on my doorstep, Morgan. just for the sake of asking, when will you be reproducing 'engine hand cranks', ' "correct" inside and outside mirrors', and 'keyed coils'? And when you finish those............only kidding!
Once again, thanks. Tim |

The hand cranks sounds doable. The more I think of the coils though, the more daunting a task it sounds like.

If I keep my 6 volt system I'd buy a hand crank no problem

A couple weeks ago on a true 4 wheelin' expedition, my family and I became stranded in the wilderness when the starter on my 2a went bad. If it wasn't for a local food source and some friendly villagers we might have starved to death!
...
Okay, so it was just a trip up up to the local Dairy Queen and I found a couple guys to help me push start it... but damn it would have been cool to have a hand crank with me.
I'm going to figure out how to make my own unless I can find one for sale somewhere.
PS - Put me down for a pair of lenses. I have a good set but I could use a backup pair.

I actually purchased a one-piece repro MB hand crank from Art Archer last year and keep it around as a reference item. obviously, the civilian versions were two piece. This one fits thru the front bumper and into the crank nut perfectly.
Kinda cool. Tim |

Would you post them to the UK? A set of spares would be a good idea I think!

If you think a hand crank is a reasonable way to start a CJ2A even in a pinch, you ain't never tried it! I always wondered why they bothered with the and crank. Having no mechanism to retard the spark for starting, it would require a knuckle-dragger to turn it over fast enough for a start. CJAlaska

Harriet,
I'd have no problem sending a pair to the UK. As for the crank the only obstacle I see in doing them is finding a sample to copy. As far as I know, no one has found an original. Morgan |

I remember from several years back when I had my Flatfender Jeep Gallery up and running and I was a regular participant on the Willystech mailing list there was a fellow who claimed to have a civilian crank. That might be a source if he's still around. I just can't remember who it was. |
