Willys used a different method for measuring the length of a front driveshaft than they used for measuring the length of a rear driveshaft. Since the only mention of method shown in any manual refers to the method used for the fronts, correctly determining the rear length can lead to confusion.
Factory blueprints show that the front driveshaft is, in fact, measured from center of u-joint to center of u-joint. However, the blueprint for the rear driveshaft does show a different method of measuring. On the blueprint the rear driveshaft is measured from the center of the rear u-joint to the front edge of the front flange, not to the center of the u-joint. Willys left that little bit of info out of the manuals. So the correct way to measure your driveshafts when trying to determine what is correct for your vehicle is: FRONT - center of u-joint to center of u-joint REAR - center of rear u-joint to front edge of forward flange Here's a corrected diagram. It's a jpg image and can be saved for reference. Larry Edited by rocketeer - 26 Dec. 2009 at 4:58pm |
