This will be a slow build but brought home the first two parts today. A m38a1 roller minus motor, and a 46 cj2a grill. I built a jeep from less before and sold it to Jpet which became bam bam. Ironically the cowl I'm getting with this frame is the cj2a cowl I started that mb build with before I found the mb body. My son is young but will be involved and will be earning money for parts and tools. If all goes well he will have a cool jeep at driving age

If you use the M38-A1 frame and a Flat fender Tub you will have some modification to do to the frame as it will be about 2.5" to long in the rear section.

so small update figured out the frame is actually a 55 cj5 frame. I confused it as 55 is the only year a cj5 had reversed shackles like a m38a1 stock. I'm planning on picking up a dauntless v6 and possibly a t86 trans for the project. We got the tub home and placed on the frame along with a hood and grill.

From what I've read, you don't want a T-86.  Jim Allen, in his Jeep 4X4 Performance Handbook, says they're "weak and unreliable", both the "CC" and the "AA"  models.  Even a T-90 is better.

I've read I can use t90 internals in the t86 and then the t90 will bolt to the v6, is this true?

Now that's a good question.  I've read that you can use the guts from a T-90, but I've never seen anything about bolting it to the V-6 directly.  I just thought you would need the same adapter as the T-90.  I hope I was just misinformed about that.

One thing, though--the T-90 guts aren't synchronized down into 1st gear; is the T-86 synchronized in 1st gear?
