Hello all! I've been lurking here for a few years now while I was restoring my 45 Willys MB and decided that I should be more sociable. So let me introduce myself. I'm Mike from Arizona. I don't have a CJ2 but I have a 1945 Willys MB that I restored. Hopefully some day I'll have a CJ but for right now I'm planning on retiring in about 5 years and buying another jeep would mean I would have to work another ten on top of that. I have a complete restoration thread on the G503 so I wont bore you with all the details.
I consider myself a jeep freek and have had several in the past years. My affinity for vintage jeeps began when I purchased my MB in January 2009. What started as a Flatty fix up project turned into a full frame up restoration.
I dedicated my jeep to my father who passed away before it was complete but he was honored that I was dedicating it to him. My father gave me a photo of himself behind a 30 cal machine gun in an MB or GPW when he was an Air Policeman stationed in Germany during the Korean War. This photo was my inspiration and my goal was to depict the jeep in the photo as close as possible with his unit's markings.
I had never restored a vehicle in my life but with my mechanical ability and the wealth of information on the Internet including this site the G503, and a very understanding wife, I was able to pull it off. I did everything myself except for rebuilding the engine which I had a shop do. I kept everything as original as possible with a few repro parts here and there.
Anyway this is a great site and hopefully I can provide some tips I learned during my restoration to those of you that are in the process of restoring a jeep.
Here are a few pics of my MB. (I'm sure some of you G503'ers have seen them before).
The inspiration.
First day home.

WELCOME!
Very Nice Job On Your MB! I too have been on the G for some time and restored my gpw, and it is a wonderful site that I still frequently visit, but for some reason I enjoy this site so much more. You will find some fun, friendly and interesting conversation here. Just nice people I guess. So welcome and I'll bet there is a CJ2A in your future.

Hi Mike,
Welcome to the forum! I followed your build thread over on the gee and it was very motivating. I especially liked that part where you had just finished it and were driving it around and a guy asked you if it was a "kit". You did such a great job! I'll be re-reading it when I do my MB! |

Nice Jeep! I wished I would have gotten a MB instead of a CJ2a (oh well). I still love my CJ2A!

Superb job, and it's really refreshing to see an MB in a post-war USAF paint scheme, which looks great.
I'd really like to do an MB next, but even the world's most beat-up project will set you back $5000-$6000 over here in europe.
There was a large USAF air base a couple of miles from here in the late 50s/early 60s and I'm planning on painting the M38A1 that I'm currently half way through Strata Blue to make a change from the plain OD variety.

Yes I banged quite a few knuckles on it.
I drive it on weekends and occassionally to work. It also sees a lot of parades during the winter here in Arizona.
