Got some good news today.
The L-Head is definitely salvageable.
Crank was -.010 on main bearings and -.030 on journal bearings.
Cylinders will be .030 over.  Waiting to get parts to do finish work.
Exhaust valve inserts are done.

Now it's time to order some parts though.

I've found the engine kit available at Kaiser-Willys, but I'm not sure what other companies to look at, or which would be better.  Any words of advice here?

Thanks for the help.

OK, I see a problem now.
I've got a '46 engine, but it's got the chain driven timing set.
The engine kit for a '46 2-A says it has a gear drive.
The chain drive is listed as for a '41-'45 MB/GPW.

I don't see an engine overhaul 'kit' on walck's website.
I'll have to call them tomorrow.
Looks like the early chain driven motor is the one listed for the '41-'45.
I'll have to make some calls prior to ordering anything.

biggest differences are obviously the cam and drive, distributer gears and oil pump gears are opposite(cam spins backwards) i think the oiler for the cam drive is different too. gaskets and bearings are all the same tho.

glad the block was good, gettin rarer all the time.

I don't suggest buying a rebuild kit. If you make a list of the parts you will need and then check the prices at Walcks Novaks, DeBella and your local parts houses you will find you can save a lot of money and not end up with parts you will not need. A complete engine overhaul kit is seldom a good buy and seldom has the exact parts you need.

I ended up getting parts for my rebuild from three dealers.

BTW, I hope your planning to use a rope rear main seal and a Victor 1023K head gasket.
