You can see how different the steering column shaft output is from the original compared to the bracket face.  @2.5” difference.

I can send some measurements if needed,
But on the pitman arm it is actually closer to the block than the original, but with a longer arm.
I have my Buick v6 shifted to the passenger side about an inch so it worked.  L-4 usually is smaller be shifter to the driver side so it should be checked.  Happy to help if someone is serious about this.

That looks really good! Could you possibly post some pictures of the pitman arm and the drag link?

Thanks!

So here is some fresh information on the Hudson Steering Box conversion.  The Hudson box is larger, and seems to be much smoother operating.  The regular Ross is 3 turns lock to lock.
And the Hudson Box is 6 turns lock to lock.  I used the original pitman arm from the Hudson, and it was 7” instead or the 5” original. This makes the ratio a bit less than half of the original.
The Hudson pitman arm ball end is also larger than the original willys, so I needed to weld the drag link end of the Hudson to the willys drag link. Another thing learned is you can just bolt the bracket to the frame, because if you do the column will not match the hole in your tub.  I needed to make a bracket to offset the box 2.5” inside the frame.  Some fab and welding needed.
Just took the old girl off road and it was awesome in the sand and mud, and much easier to steer. Also less feedback on your thumbs, but still some to let you know you are still driving a 75 year old Jeep.  On the road it was much less squirly, and you can steer with 2 fingers.  On other thing, you would need to weld you steering wheel spine to the Hussein steering column to keep you steering g wheel, but the shaft diameters are the same, so it is fairly easy.
I would only recommend this if you are comfortable mig and tig welding well!! Steering components are no joke as you all know.
I am very pleased, and would say it keeps the “feel” but somehow feels like it has power assist.

Dad put the Hudson conversion in his 2A and it was a great improvement. Pre-Sag.   He used the box, column, and wheel.  Think he elongated a bolt hole on the box. It looked similar to  a beefy Ross box.   I saw one either on CL or FB market about 3 days ago.  It was a complete unit.   Even had 3 on the tree.  I like the Hudson str. wheel.  Do a internet search on hudson steering to Willys Jeep .

I'd read somewhere look for a 1951 - 1953 Hornet
and should include the Pitman Arm .

I would think the 1954 would be the same box as HUDSON
were not big on budgets .

It can't be just any old Hudson box.....
There are two types if I recall.
One that is mounted inside the frame and one that is mounted outside the frame.
If you flip it over, it turns the opposite way when you turn the wheel I've been told.
When I was about 6 years old, a fellow Jeep owner in our club did this swap. (as many did)
But he got the wrong box (told everyone how much cheaper it was)
The story was that when he went out the driveway the Jeep turned the wrong way.
Believe it... or not.

I might be able to purchase all the parts I need from a local Hudson guy that I found. Will probably go see him this weekend to see if he has what I need.
If I am able to get the parts, I will start a new Hudson steering conversion thread in the Modifications from Original section when I do my conversion.
