Fc time

The oil psi light works and if the little ground wire is touched to the contact on the dash the horn even works!!

I mean this thing is cherry!!!LOL

One benefit of a fc,when the choke cable is froze up you can just put your hand over the carb to choke it while sitting in the seat.

One draw back of an fc is when it back fires through the carb the fire ball is in the cab with you!!!!Shocked

For safety always close the battery lid, when hanging a gas tank with a rotten bungee cord above said battery Wink
As an added safety factor the gas tank is plastic so it won’t conduct electricity Clap

This Fc runs so good I can’t hardly believe it!
It had sat for 15-20 years when I first got it and I’ve never done anything other than put a battery in it and jump gas tank.
And then it has sat at Dads for about 6 years with out moving.

I thought I might need to pull the carb or file the points NOPE!!
Battery and gas start it drive itClap

First thing I did was unload my wheel collection.
There wasn’t much left of the wooden deck, so I decided to back over to the burn pile and strip it off.
Oh ya I didn’t fix the brakes.... So I ended up backing off into the burn pit!!Embarrassed
That’s ok it’s 4 wheel-drive drove right out when I was done.

My new place is only 2 miles from DadsSmile
Soooo I decided to drive it home.
Every thing went pretty good, the neighbor did almost pull out in front of me on his four wheeler....NO brakes so I was going slow on the gravel roadShocked
When I got on the pavement though... watch out!! I got up into 3rd gear the speedometer even works. Got it up to 3 on it.
The exhaust is rotted off with only a 3’ pipe off the manifold! Ahhh nothing like the sound of a flathead 6 with a short straight pipe Clap
I was pretty confident that I could down shift to slow down and did shift back to 2nd going down a hill.
I soon realized how overconfident I was on my shifting.
As I started up the steep gravel lane that leads to our driveway
I put it in 1st and then tried to put it in 4 high as I’m going up the hill... no go the transfer case wouldn’t shift into high.. I had it low at Dads but never tried high.
With no weight on the back I started spinning on the loose gravel digging and chewing up the roadOuch
I spun out and then had to get into low-range 4wd with out rolling backwards down the hill!!!
When moving forward again.. my confidence was back, so I tried to grab 2nd gear while still going up the hillConfused

This when I learned trying to speed shift an FC with worn out linkage is a bad idea!!
( An fc has a shifter on the floor but it’s mounted in a pivot mechanism that runs two rods to a side shift transmission)
In other words be carful when shifting!!
I got the shift mechanism all bound upAngry
At least it got stuck in 1st. Drove the rest of the way home in 1stSleepy

This saga reminds me of the crazy guys in Alaska driving a WW2 Studebaker Red Ball Express truck out of a remote airstrip in the Tundra after they found it abandoned.

Does the FC have a dump bed on it, or just a flat bed?

Two miles with no hydraullic brakes, does the park brake work?

Do you have plans to bid the mail route with your mail Jeep? LOL

Your "Adventures" are fun to see. Thanks for posting.

I Cut my post short last night..dinner was ready so I posted what I had typed up.
I edited it and added more of the adventure.

Posted the rest of the story.

Oily-no dump bed, didn’t try any of the brakes, afraid they might stick.
No mail route.... although we do have a long driveway, guess we could use it to get the mail LOL

Desert dog has been put into service as the main farm jeepSmile
We don’t need NO STINKIN four wheeler this is a Jeep farm!!!
First order of business was to get the snow plow off.

And add a hitch with a ball so I can move the trailers around.
