When I bought my 2a in pieces , I got a couple different oil filter assemblies and ended up using a purolater military standard jr not really knowing the difference at the time . when I buy a c4 filter it never comes with the correct gasket for the lid so I have 2 questions . What is the correct style for a 48 2a ? and if I buy the c3 filter for the smaller or civvy filter housing do they typically come with the correct lid gasket?

Not a direct answer to your question, but this article from the Tech FAQs section talks all about the different oil filters and what filter elements go with each.

My '48 uses the NAPA 1010 filter and it comes with correct gasket.  Not sure which one you have, but this is mine.

Thanks , that's good info to identify what I have on hand . so now I know I have both a military jr and a 2 band purolator style . I always have to special order the military gasket and I want to get away from that . I think ill clean up the smaller 2 band pick up a c3p element and see if the included gasket fits .

I'm sorry, I may be throwing you under a bus.  The filter housing pictured above is a Purolator Military Standard.  I believe, but am not positive, that the Military Junior is the same size.  I have always purchased the NAPA 1006 and it works fine, but now remember I have always had to reuse the original gasket that was in housing when I got it.  I remember being pissed about it, but continued to buy this filter and reusing the gasket.  A few years back, I reasearched the filter a little more and my notes lead me to believe I settled on a NAPA 1100.  I went to buy this one, but my local NAPA didn't have it...so I bought the 1006 once again.   My notes say the NAPA Gold 1100 includes a gasket with a 5.125" outside diameter...and a 4.375" inside diameter.  After measuring the original gasket, this would fit perfectly in my filter housing.

I guess we now need to know if the "Standard" and the "Junior" are the same size housings.  Can you measure you Junior lid"?  Inside face, between the edge where the gasket sits.  If 5-1/8", the NAPA Gold 1100 should be a winner.  That said, bring your lid with you and check for fit if you're picking it up at NAPA.

I've been using the Napa Gold 1006 in my 47, I bought another 47 a few weeks ago, it takes the same filter.
Question: Will these 3 filters interchange? Does anyone have experience with the Wix or Fram?

I believe that housing pictured is a military jr as well. as I understand it the jr is shorter but they are both labeled military standard.

There is a lid that says MILITARY STANDARD FILTER and another that says MILITARY STANDARD JUNIOR FILTER.  They have different part numbers ...25791 and 26688.  My housing (pictured) says MILITARY STANDARD FILTER PART 25791.  Thus my question whether the measured diameter is the same for the Junior and Standard.

See the photos in this g503 thread.  Whether they are the same is unclear in this thread...

I have read that the WIX 51100 cartridge is the same as the NAPA Gold 1100. In fact, WIX makes the NAPA version.  You can buy either on line.  The WIX appears to come in at a better price.

So looking at your previous post, the Napa Gold 1100 will interchange with the Napa Gold 1006?

Sort of.  If you re-read my post again, you'll notice I could never use the new gasket that comes with the 1006.  It's too small.  The filter cartridge does fit, and works fine.  Diameter wise, it's a bit smaller than the 1100 and 51100, but fits on the center tube just fine...and does cover the oil pressure hole in the center tube.

It appears that the NAPA Gold 1100 or the WIX 51100 comes with the right size gasket.  I'll give one of them a try on my next oil change, but from the other comments on the thread, I'm pretty confident it will be a winner for the Military Standard and possibly, the Military Standard Junior.
