watching a lot of you tube videos of flat fenders off roading. Quite a few have bikini tops. When I search for them they don't exist. Where are they getting them? Are they retro fitting cj5 ones? As always, thanks in advance for any help. Running a Best top tiger top but quite a pain to roll up side or take down before off roading.

Have you Googled..... CJ2A bikini top? I got all kinds of info, even past discussions of them on the 2A Page.

My bikini top is off of an early 80s CJ5. Its a little wide on the windshield frame but it still works.

I opened this thread based upon the title. Now I’m disappointed in the fact ”bikini tops” may have different meanings ☹️

Otto,

What type attaching points do you have on the front of your windshield for the top?  Is it twist fasteners, a channel / slot or brads like an MB has?  The tops would be easy to sew.  I have thought about sewing one that would not flap when driving down the road.  I think that if the top would be sewn with some rope battens in the top would not flap.  I am surprised that this has not been done.

That's why I prefer to use the term "umbrella top" for the Jeep item.

I'm using a CJ5 bikini. It is just a wee bit wide at the front. I also have a 3A windshield, which has a channel already in place to thread the CJ5 top into. It has two long straps that attach to footman loops on the back of the body. Some times I run a canvas MB/GPW summer top and I added MB style buttons to the top of windshield to accommodate the canvas top. I have a rollbar for the middle support ("B" pillar) and Bubba-rigged a soft top bow to the downward sloping part of the roll bar for the rear support and then used the stock straps and footman loops.

I bought a late model jeep bikini off craigslist. Then cut and sewed it to fit. For $20, I think it came out well.

I can't remember when or where I got the bikini top for Wilson,  because it was easily 25+ years ago,  but it has held up amazingly well.  It was made by Kayline, and fits great.  Hopefully it has many more years in it,  but if it finally deteriorates,  I might try to make my own of same dimensions.

In some searching,  came across this thread:
https://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/bikini-tops-photos_topic8335_page12.html?KW=bikini

I did not read in detail,  I was mostly looking for photos.   Unfortunately many are blurred by photobucket.    Starting around page 12-13 there are photos of finished product.    Page 16 there are some good photos by jPet on how to make one,  including dimensions.

I just made mine.  Ordered sunbrella material from amazon and bought the “common sense” fasteners from sailrite.
