I have searched and read everything(?) about this topic but have not found an answer to my problem. I have replaced the refurbished crank and installed back in the jeep and finally, no rear main seal leak!! Unfortunately, now the front leaks. It is not the timing cover gasket. When running the fan picks up a drop and nicely makes an oil line on the floor! I have replaced the oil seal twice. The oil seems to be coming from the hand crank nut, on the inside of it. The seal rides on the od of the pulley but what stops oil from migrating on the crankshaft other than the nut? Should the nut/crank have a little sealer on the threads? The pulley has slight movement on the crankshaft, as in a wobble. Not much, but could this be my problem? Before taking the crank out there was not a leak.
As always, any guidance will be appreciated. Thad

The timing cover seal is likely the problem. It is important to "center" the pulley in the seal on the timing cover to give the seal a better chance at success. This is achieved by installing the pulley temporarily on the crank before tightening down the timing cover.
If you did this and are pretty sure it's centered, dab a bit of Permatex 2 on the shaft prior to setting the pulley. If it's sneaking out between the shaft and the pulley, this should help. Edited by athawk11 - 15 June 2019 at 4:31am |

The old pulley was pretty loose on the crank. Also, where the seal rides on the pulley was pretty rough. I bought a new pulley but it seems very tight, as in I had to strike it pretty hard to get to enough threads to force it on with the nut. In fact, I first tried to put it on this way w/o the woodruff key and finally succeeded but then bent the outer edge of the pulley trying to remove it. Had to use a gear puller. Is this normal? I bought the pulley that Carl at Walcks recommended.
