I wanted one that would represent an original for quite some time. I found an original motor end nos piece thanks to a member on here. I made the other crank end of it and thanks again to members on here for the measurements I needed. I made a tapered square drift and after a lot of heats with an acetylene torch I was able to forge the tapered square socket and bend it to shape. I actually made 2 of them and gave one to a member on here. I believe (I don't really know) the originals might have been cast instead of forged because the part that I bought was cast.
I haven't started the jeep with it yet but have turned the motor over with it to adjust the points.

I’m in the “wanting original like parts” group and happen to enjoy blacksmithing so the joint is do-able by me. (Although I haven’t tried yet) but the connection to the crank nut looks to be very difficult to forge. I think that would be better machined. Maybe I’ll take a better look at it this summer.

If you decide to move forward on that project, please let me know and I may place an order for one unit. A good starting point would be getting a one piece reproduction and just add the joint. This guy from UK seems to make a good one priced at 50 GBP: Fabricio
