Hi All
The 2a page is moving to a new home on the internet. It is in the process now. Over the next 2 days the move should be complete. The new host is very fast and I have much more space for adding pictures and pages. So let me know about any ideas for the 2a page. Also send in your jeep pictures and stories as I can now add to the owners pages. We will no longer see the www.thecj2apage.com in the address once the move is complete.

My new email address is thecj2apage at aol dot com

Thanks and Enjoy!
Russ

Russ, suggest you look at www.ifsja.org  for ideas on organizing the archive tech information. We are getting enough tech info on this site to start a tech archive, I think.

I keep the computers and web site  in order for a non-profit so I have some appreciation for how much time and effort is involved in running this forum. For the enlightenment of the whiners:  there is a LOT of unpaid labor involved. So, THANK YOU!

We could give it a shot again, but I am not going to put it on the home page. I will add it to the forum, so only members will see it.

I second CJAlaska suggection for a tech forum.
You might even consider organizing it according to the manual.
This would stop all the repeat questions.
Thanks for keeping this forum alive. I know you spend many hours on it.

Hey Russ!  Thanks for all that you do to keep this page alive and always trying to improve it!

I third the Tech Archive idea, and organizing it according to the manual sounds like a good idea too.

Well, being really new to this site, and with no knowledge of experience with the old site, I was hoping that there was an archive available for reference.  I must respectfully disagree with X007925, though.  It won't stop the repeat questions from the "drop ins" who just want an answer to what's got them stumped NOW!!!  But it can be a very valuable resourse, and the worth of the experience I've just seen a little of (so far) is beyond calculation.  Thanks admin and all contributors!!!
If it aint broke, fix it 'til it is! (or YOU are)

Try searching the site and the forum before posting.

Russ:

The search function is disfunctional.  There's a bug in the code which I suspect only WebWiz can fix, then there's a default setting that could/should be changed, and there's a search option that could be added.

1) the bug - the "word" search is defaulting to wildcard searches.

eg: search for "rack" using any of the key-word types: "match all", "match any" or "match exact", and you get the exact same 476 returns!

It finds matches for "bracket", "track", "crack", etc. plus all the plurals.  The exact match option sould return ONLY "rack".

This bug makes it impossible to narrow the search results.  Out of 34 pages of returns for exact "rack", the first instance didn't show up until page 6.

2) the search defaults to only the past 6 months of posts.  Most folks probably don't realize that they're not searching the entire chronology of posts.

It would be nice if this setting, once changed, could me made to "stick".

Personally, I think the default should be "any date".

3) the only 2 options are to search either in the "title" or in the "message body".  A third option to search in both would be helpful.

The first item is the deal killer, and makes the search suboptimal.  This wasn't a problem initially, but now that we've racked up a LOT of postings, it has become very time consuming to find what you're looking for.  And it will only get worse as more messages are posted.

Sean
