Okay, back at this project.  I had the chance to measure a CJ2 windshield and they are only 2 " taller than the MB/GPW.  So  with that, I plan on making a small run of about 10 in the Olive Drab #7 material.  It will be 12 oz before treated (18 oz after) water resistant. The cost will run $90 each (plus shipping) for either MB/GPW or CJ2.  I prefer US only but if there is an interested Canadian or two, I guess I can ship up that way. Smile

I am still a few weeks out before I will have any material and all the items to start producing these.  The closure on the cover will use 5 Lift-The-Dot fasteners.   I also have a few other colors available to me, green, brown and blue.  To make these cost effective, I would need at least three orders per a color to keep the cost down for you.  Green and Brown would run approximately $98.00 ea (plus shipping) and Blue a bit more at $105.00 plus shipping).  To only make one in any of these colors would run between $120-$130!  So if there is any interest in these, let me know.  If enough of you are interested in a specific color, the price could drop even more.  The more material I can buy in a specific color, the lower the yardage cost.

Also, the build time might be a bit slow at first as I am limited on my time.  My wife has started up as a full time student again along with working still which means she has absolutely no time.  That means all the mundane everyday tasks fall on my shoulders.  I'm down to only a few hours during the week and maybe a day on the weekend.  Once I get proficient at these, it won't be a problem whipping one of these out in a few hours.

Would like to get a feel if there is any interest in these.  I'm not out to make a killing on these, just a few bucks to buy parts for my jeep project.

Thanks!
Nick

Zooke
I just saw this post, on the windshield cover. Some one posted they were used in WWII for covering the windshield so the glass would not reflect and be spotted by aircraft. That is correct as far as I know, but looking at war time photos in the few that have the cover that was not there number one use. The guys who having one made for there CJ2As can do this also, most of the ones I have seen are used as "storage bags". The soldiers would stuff items they did not want get wet inside the cover while it was on the jeep windshield. In the photos the covers look like stuffed laundry bags on the windshield.
I have some WWII Marine jeep windshield covers here that I found in an old barn over 20 years ago. The army ones are made of canvas the Marine ones were made of plywood.

Have you given thought to doing some for the 3B windshield?
I have a spare frame you could use for fit if we could figure a cheap way to get it to you.
I'm in Chicago area and am going to the Effingham reunion this summer.

Well with a few pictures and measurements, it shouldn't be too hard to make without having the frame handy.  I would need to know how wide the frame is and how tall from the hood to the top of the frame.  Also, how are they secured down when folded down?  Same as the CJ2s?

My 'real' job has kept me busy at the moment so I haven't had a chance to order the material.  I'm hoping next month I'll be able to get busy on this project along with a few other projects in the works.

Once warm weather is here to stay, I'll take some pictures and measurements and send them to you.

Did you ever make the windshield covers you discussed on the forum?
Do you have any for sale for an MB?
Thanks,

Hey guys.

Well, this project got put on the back burner.  Moved a few years back and the focus has changed a bit.  I'm still working on canvas stuff but currently knee deep in MB/GPW seat cushions.  Windshield covers are still on my list, just too busy seats.
