I believe this one is for the Fender mount, The one pictured is a firewall mount.

Horn Assembly (Int'ch'ble with A-17715)........Part No. 645460

This is the horn that has the firewall mount, There is no marking on it that I can see. I painted it last year and didn't see anything. This came off Jeep #34692

Anybody got an early Sparks Withington, or Schwarze Electric?
I thought that "Sparton" made horns too, or is that Just on the Military?

Gary:

"Sparton" = Sparks Withington

Keep in mind, the parts lists show what was available at the time, for replacement purposes.  Because of that, and the use of single part numbers for different brands of horn, the horn parts have been confusing to interpret.  The '47 parts list is more accurate than the '49 WRT what was originally used.

Here's what I think:

A-1389 - firewall bracket for Schwarze & Sparton long trumpet horns (same as MB), up to S/N 13908, and short trumpet Sparton up to s/n 51228.

A-17716 - firewall bracket w/spacer, for Autolite short trumpet horns, after s/n 13908, up to s/n 51228.

645462 - spring spacer (between horn & bracket) for short Sparton to firewall bracket.

664968 - fender bracket for Autolite & Sparton after s/n 51228

Photos are not mine, but these are long trumpet Sparton (black) and Schwarze (red).  Both horns use a single part number, A-1312:

Here is another horn. I think these are closer to what was on the 3A and later. This on is on Jeep #58500 and was on it when I bought it.

Garyarf, your pic of a cj3a horn looks alot like the one on my cj. I think the windsheild on my cj might be a 3a! Now I really want to get it into my garage and out of my parents so that I can find serial #'s I might have a 3a and didn't know it! you all will have to help me identify it. Plan on moving the cj either this weekend or next, when I do there will be lots of pics.

Is it correct to assume that my CJ2A #53392 should have the original horn mounted on the fender?
Should it be a long or short trumpet type?

Thanks
