It actually took me 7 minutes to get over that ledge but now I know how to do it so next year, I suspect it will be a nothing burger.

Yup, that ledge looks like it would be a belly hang up for me. I probably would hit it with a bump and more skinny pedal to see if I could scrape over it. It would be iffy.
Wish I could try it right now.

Thanks for the video, Jeff. I'm kinda bummed the 'Sub wasn't ready to join the fun. I still get tons of comments on our video from last year.

I would but I just pulled my steering apart and ordered a new bell crack pivot shaft and bearings. Wink

My buddy who invited me bailed and they are calling for showers and thunderstorms tomorrow. I think I’ll postpone for now.

All Jeeps must have a roll bar and seat belts to get into Badlands. We've gotten away with being OEM in the past, but I believe those days are over.

.... and you have to have an orange flag on your Jeep. If you don’t have one, you can get one there. Bring some zip ties.

That was a trip for the memory books. Our most chaotic, unorganized ride at Badlands yet!

First obstacle at the park is a decent sized rock garden. Jeff decides he must conquer it. It takes some time, but he makes it.

After getting over the obstacle, I drive the Sub around to meet him on the other side. I go to climb a rock and stall the Jeep. No problem. Go to restart and all I hear is "click click." Nice. Borrow some tools from Jeff, remove the starter and find the gear has grenaded itself. I also notice a pool of oil below my trans. 2 weeks ago I spent all of Sat & Sun wheeling at Badlands without flaws - I swear.

In the meantime while I'm lying in the dirt watching my gear oil drain, Jeff can't get Bam Bam to start. No power to the ECU and no time to fix it. Since we arrived so late and the park closes in just a couple hours, we decided to just tow it back to the trailer. I get a pull start, and can't shut off or stall my engine for the rest of our stay.

After Jeff and family/friends left, I ended up running into Eric. We all arrived at different times and he couldn't find us in the park earlier. We spent the last couple hours trying to get as much riding as possible in. Somehow I led us into an open area with mud pits in every direction.

We played a game of frogger trying to dodge the super deep pits since I was the only one with a winch. I was, however, aiming for every water hole I could find. It was a blast! Our time was cut short when Eric heard some horrific noises, possibly a spun main bearing.

And that's the story of how 2 of the 3 Jeeps broke in the first hour, and the 3rd falling victim towards the end. My trans completely drained itself, covering my trailer in oil. Had to unload the Jeep with a forklift.

Here are some pictures from Badlands yesterday:

The tubes are filled in now and no longer a challenge.

You found some proper muddy terrain! Sad to hear about the tunnels, that was my favorite part.

I will check in with my group of wheeling reprobates and see if they are interested. They are well equipped and good drivers but none drive Flatties.

This is actually an old thread that I just keep posting to. No trip is planned at the moment. That being said, if someone plans a trip, I’d like to know about it.

Badlands is fun but I think it’s more fun on an ATV or motorcycle. (or unless you are into mud ... Nick_ ...)

The rock quarry has some cool obstacles for Jeep but you can cover all that in about an hour.
