No doubt it's unglamorous tedium... I hate cleaning, but I love pulling the masking tape off that freshly painted part Wink

Looking good Thumbs Up

For myself, I’d rather take a whipping than paint. Probably why it usually mostly falls off. Someday maybe I’ll get the patience

Well, I'm not doing a restoration.  I had the motor rebuilt and am doing the re-assembly.  So cleaning, some fixing/replacing and rattle can painting is all that it's getting right now.  That paint just might fall off once I start running trails and such.  LOL

Don't think of it as making it pretty so much as corrosion protection... and it's SO much nicer to work on than filthy rusty greasy Wink

Right on!  A little road grime is one thing.  But decades of build up does seem to get in the way.

Still getting in an hour or two at a time here and there.  This week I opened up the transmission for inspection.  After cleaning the outside last week, I moved it around a bit.  Thought I heard something inside.  When I opened it up, I found 14 little friends rolling around seemingly laughing at me.  So, I proceeded to clean the transmission inside and out.  I hope to put it back together tonight.

Interesting cover plate, but not a side shift transmission.
Looks factory-?
Unlike the cobbled piece of sheet metal I use to keep stuff out during removal / installation when the shift tower is off.

When we pulled my engine, transmission, etc, out of the Jeep at my friend's shop, they let me borrow that plate to keep out debris.  It does look like a factory stamped cover from a side-shift.
