I can't seem to fit any of the ongoing threads LOL  No mountain pass vistas, no ongoing upgrades...Not reallly "doing work" with my jeep.  What did I do on my jeep today?  Turned the key Wink  I imagine piling tools and tarps in the back and burbling over to my BIL's for the couple days I could give him on his re-roofing job would have been right in line with the jeeps original work-a-day duties back in the 40's Tongue

.
I will say, the 18 miles each way was an awesome way to start the day... and something to look forward to when the nail guns were put up in the evening-

mbullism,

That is awesome.  Lots of us wish we could drive them to work but the modern traffic is too crazy.

Be safe up on the roof!

you were just hoping to snag some extra shingles to make some mud flaps for the jeep...you know, just in case

Roofing is the only thing i pay the pros to do,  shelling out the $$ was painfully, but probably less painful than a 50 year old fat guy bouncing on the ground

its also one of those things where the pros make it look so easy.   I have a lot of roof, 10 guys showed up at 7 AM , and by 2pm they were cleaning up.   complete tear off,  some deck repair and reshingled,  It was pretty impressive to watch how efficient they worked, and how effortlessly they ran around the roof

All good points, and well taken... this 55yo is one sore puppy after two days off the ground, and I'm about 15 years past "bouncing" LOL  It's a flaw in my character to pay folks to do what I'm capable of, the exception being that I'm honest enough with myself when they can do it better.  This does, however, result in a constant backlog of things to attend to Embarrassed

My free labor also came with conditions Wink  No hauling shingles up the ladder, and no cleaning up... my nephew and a friend of his played day laborer, lol.  Still, the  ride there and home were the best parts of my day-

Mbullism,

Good call on the not hauling the shingles to the roof.  I need to set that as a stipulating going forward.  The thing that gets me is the 8/12+ pitch roofs.   It is always a bummer when the tools and the shingle bundles want to slide off of the roof.

I like shingling. 4 nails and another shingle, then repeat. I like jobs that don't require a ton of thought. It's nice when you're up on that roof with a great view. I never shingle when the weather is bad.
You had the advantage of being able to spend time with your BIL and had a nice Jeep view. Can't beat that.

I'm with you on this.  After a day of doing my real job, I find tasks like this to be cathartic and relaxing.
