I'm getting ready to pull the transmission and transfer case. I'm at the point of trying to take off the shifters on the transfer case. From what I can figure, the set screw on the one end comes off and then pull the other end with the zerk fitting. The pin is being stubborn and won't come. I removed the zerk and put in 1/4" NF bolt and tapped on that but still no movement. Anybody have some other tricks to get the pin out?

PB Blaster (not WD-40) liberally applied to the pin on both ends. It may take a day or two with several applications for the pin to come loose...or it may not if it has been in there for 70 years...
PB blaster is your best bet. Way back when I turned wrenches for a living I did construct a miniature screw jack that pushed against the side of the transmission and the back side of the pin. It worked just long enough to pop it free. I would still start with PB Blaster though. |
