Did a 4 day weekend trip to Crescent lake last week. Took the Rat patrol on it's first real off road testing.
Put about 350 miles on it, a mix of paved, gravel, & unmaintained roads.

First two pics are of the North shore of Crescent lake on a pumice track, third pic is @ Odell lake.
Great time had by all, only mechanical fault was a temp gauge that slowly quit working - I'm thinking a leak in the capillary tube. Wish I could do higher resolution, these photos don't do it justice. Weather was perfect - mid to low 70's & a small thunder/lightening storm Friday night.

This is Summit lake, the largest lake in Oregon with no maintained road for access.
Eight miles of fun rough road from the North shore of Crescent lake. Not super bad, but enough semi steep rocky sections to make the passengers white knuckle a bit. The girls loved it & my wife even braved the cold water & took a swim. Had a lunch break, talked to a couple of guys fishing about the Willys, then headed back to our "camp" @ Crescent lake guard station (built mid-1930's).  Roughing it - the place had power, flush toilet, hot/cold water, heater, oven/stove, & a fridge.

I like your canvas "bikini" top. Beautiful place, and it is rare nowadays to find such a large beautiful lake with no maintained road access. It is why everyone needs a Jeep.
If you can't get there in a Jeep you don't need to be there!

Thanks - all that bikini top is is a 4x4' square of 30mil green canvas (McMaster # 7882T129).
I punched holes & installed common sense fasteners for the windshield mounting & just pop riveted some canvas straps on the back. I was amazed at how well it turned out for a hillbilly mod.

Excellent! My kind of jeeping. 350 miles is a pretty good (stout) trip as well.

Replaced faulty temp gauge with a spare, works fine. Checked all fluids, all look good... no oil or coolant used. Crawled underneath & could see no apparent damage.... though I'm going to have to trim the extra low hanging threads off of the axle U-bolts.  Need to get hustling on making that jerry can / spare tire rack for the rear. Have another long weekend cabin camp trip with the '47 to Cultus lake coming up in 3 weeks.
(three night stay @ Crater lake lodge in two weeks - been on my bucket list. No Willys on this one though, but I would like to do the rim drive with it - maybe next year)

I took the Jeep to the races on Wednesday. Nice to not have to worry about someone dinging your car in the tight parking spots.

Too bad about the crash with two pilots lost. Sad way to end the final Reno Air Race.
