I am working on a engine the the serial number on the flat by the water pump starts with LR. When would then engine be from? Has anyone ever seen an LR prefix.

Look close and see if its not "4LR".  The "4LR" was typically a 4 cylinder L head Replacement (a.k.a Crate) engine
