One of our Dispatcher subscribers Al Sandvig brought this to my attention. Had no idea this one existed. Its too bad the body is gone. Although I believe he can get the correct tailgate on ebay...

A shame it wasn't recognized for what it was before it was made into another 'nice old jeep' IMO.
Seems about the only 'history' left on it is the serial number. |

As I stated to Bill this morning in a text message.....
This vehicle was offered to me earlier this year, for quite a substantial amount more than is disclosed in the above link. The person selling it isn't the party that "restored" the vehicle to it's current state, it was purchased as you see it..... When the selling party approached me looking for info regarding the frame and dash tags, it became apparent to me what was hidden under civilian sheet metal. Once i received a plethora of requested photos, I conversed with the "powers to be" for verification. Once that was obtained, I used that knowledge to convey back to the owner what he in fact actually had. Given the questions I asked, and the pictures that I received, it is my opinion that about 40% of CJ2-38 exists..... Mind you, many of the parts that are missing from other known pre-production jeeps are in fact with this one, ie: motor, transmission, front axle, column shift parts.... So, I just wanted to add to this thread, before the picking apart of the vehicle stretches out in this thread, that scrutiny has already prevailed, and the incorrectness has been verified....... Out of respect for the current owner, or the new to be owner, I will not publish the photo history that I have of this vehicle publicly, but will answer any questions that would arise from my curiosity.... Low...............

If the motor and trans and front axle are original, that’s pretty extraordinary and IMO, more important than the original sheet metal.

Thought I would never find myself saying this JPET, but I don't agree with you 100% on that one. The Sheetmetal on the AgriJeeps was/is very special, and knowing it has a 1970's vintage ACME body on it now greatly detracts from it.
The original engine is cool, but the AgriJeep engine were just MB engines in a specific number range. As usual though, the Hemmings thread doesn't do it justice. Oh, and the Tailgate referenced in the first post... I stand corrected. The tub for CJ2-02 was not made by MD Juan. Only the tailgate and headlight supports were. (and I have no proof that is the MD Juan tailgate for sale, only that he had them make one or more.) |
