My father-in-law, Ron Rader passed recently and left me his ‘66 CJ5 with Ramsey pto winch, F head/t90. He and I recently purchased another ‘66 with a 225/t14. I plan to install the 225/t14. It has 4.27 diff gears, so I think eventually I’d like to do a low gear set in the t case. I will probably buy a tub, fenders and tailgate. I think I have most other parts. It should be fun. I only wish Ron would have been able to complete it.

Looks like a great project.

My Dad bought a 140 new in 1969 and still uses it. I bought one just like it and restored it. I have a tiller, snowblower and mower deck for it. It has the rear PTO and triple hydraulic valve. They are handy and fun, just like an old Willy's!

I'm sorry for your loss. This one hits close to home. I spent my first 30 years there in Oakland County and also have inherited a Jeep project. I'll be following your build.

A couple progress pics. I bought a complete '62 CJ5 from Bob Donovan. The floor braces were rusted, but the rest is in good shape. I plan to just fix the floor, prime and paint the floor and inside so the inside is really nice, then leave the outside alone. Chassis is just about done. I need to get a radiator, tires, and a few other little things. I'll get it running and driving and then I may get crazy and put a top on it and add AC and make it our long distance traveler. I did the passenger side of the floor first, and then realizing the error of my ways, cut out the complete driver side. I was trying to save as much of the original passenger side floor as I could, which was dumb. I made the floor panels with a little thicker steel than original. I have a bare frame which I will set on top of this to align the braces so the holes are in the right spots before welding the braces in. Edited by drm101 - 11 Aug. 2023 at 9:07am |

Weld thru primer on the floor and braces, then welded in the braces. Glad I didn’t sell this frame so I could use it to align everything. Broke my back moving it around, but at least the braces are in place. I still need to finish welding them in, finish priming, then paint.
