Al,
I spoke at length last fall with Bill, discussed many things, he was a great help. I did find a source for the chains, it's called lock link single loop, I found that it's present use is for commercial garage door openers, it loops around a sprocket. If you're looking for the source, it is here. http://kscdirect.com/item/COO%2B0741034/COOPER%2BTOOLS_1%252F0%2BLock%2BLink%2BSingle%2BLoop%2BChain%252C%2BWrapped%252C%2BGalvanized%252C%2B100%2527%2527%2Bper%2BCarton%250A Dave, I've seen a variety of tailgate chains, doesn't seem to be a pattern as to what was used when, probably what was the cheapest.. The other features seem to fall into time frame patterns (spring hangers, drawbar supports, etc.) Edited by bkreutz - 04 Apr. 2009 at 5:13am |

Out of the tent and into the light. I'm pleased with the result. (even if it's an "unoriginal color")

Original or not Gale, it still looks great.
When you think of old color options during that time period, its suprising black wasnt offered.
Willys offered black for a short time. I have a original 2a hood in black to replace the one on my 492A.
Probably realized it wasnt user freindly! My first new car (89 Ranger) was black. Never again for me!
Regards.

As you can see, I have a weak spot when it comes to coloring my vehicles. (this picture sure shows just how small these things are!)

Gale, how do your trailer lights connect to your jeep? Did you use the modern style light hookups or original ones?

Neither, the original was a 2 wire (tail and brake, ground through the hitch) and is so rare that I've never even seen a picture of one. I needed taillight wiring so I used a WWII MB/GPW socket and plug (which is a 4 wire) The socket fits the hole in the L/R of the tub. Here's a pic ( http://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/142857_topic7222_page8.html) If you go to the Bantam page there's an in-depth article about it (that Art was nice enough to arrange) Look partway down the center list under "wiring" http://bantamt3c.com/index.htm

All that was left of mine was about 4 foot of 2-wire inside the original loom - but nothing on the end. As said - that is something none of us have seen.

Someone correct me if Im wrong, but I think Vintage Wiring of Maine was or is making them. I "THINK" thats what Bill Norris has on his. He sent me some pics a long time ago, cant retreive any of that stuff unforunately, encluding my pics of my 49 when I first aquired it

Wondered for a while which thread I should put this into, "New Shop" or here. Decided it was dealing with the Bantam, so here it is, as some of you may know, I plan to store the Bantam on the second floor of the shop, I'm finally at that point so I finished the frame that I can attach the hoist. I've hung it off the cherry picker (that's how I figured the balance point) and it seems to work well, I'll find out later today (or tomorrow) if it works as planned. If you don't hear from me again, that means the trailer fell on me, or the structure in the shop collapsed (hopefully my calculations are correct, but the acid test is when I actually do it.) If this works, I'll post some pics of the "lift".

Well I survived, actually it worked like I thought (hoped) it would,
Lifted straight up pulled it into the loft and the new parking spot. |

Not sure what gap you're referring to.
