Grease

I personally like Lucas oil products so I went with an agricultural/mining equipment grease. I thought about using marine, but I figured I wouldn't be underunderwater too much.....I hope

I'd just like to hear what and why

I even packed my steering box with the mining grease via the little plug, to flush out the remaining water in it, cause there was a lot. It was sitting longer than I thought

I have a 1965 case 930, big huge work horse tractor only make 83 horses but about a million billion foot pounds of torque, got stuck going through what I thought was shallow mud (no sitting water). I've never seen so much black smoke and fire come out of it before. It tried, damned if it didn't. It took four people a week and a lot of digging to get her out. 

I don't go near that area anymore.... and it's on my property

Very good question Valvoline and other manufactures make so many different grades. why?

seems that a lot of guys use synesthetic grease , red in color that I notice.

I use Valvoline high temp that they say is suited for fleet  of vehicles. light green in color,   Is it any better than another??

That would depend on how much grease is in there.  If you could get some of the grease out and then squirt some oil in, you might be okay.  If there's too much grease, your oil might just come out the top of the box instead of going to the bushings.  There is no seal on the top of the bearing retainer to which the outer tube is clamped.  Oil will come out of there if it can.  Voice of bitter experience here...
