I purchased a 46 2A this past spring and it came with a bunch of parts including a MB block 638632 with M 38 head 800378.  My question is this valuable to anyone restoring a MB?  The motor turns and looks like it has been cared for (meaning it has been stored correctly).  Thanks in advance and apologize if this is an ignorant question.

638632 casted engine blocks were also used in the CJ2A until early 1947.  Is there any other indication that it's an actual MB block?  Does it have an MB serial number?  If so, the block may have value if it can be proven sound.  It would have even more value if it has the original size cylinder bore...or close to original.

The head has some value if in good condition, but probably not as much value to a guy looking for a matching MB head.

Could you share the casting date on the block as well as the assembly date stamped into the face that the oil pan mates to? My 1945 CJ2A #11662 engine has a January 15 casting date, and I’m pretty sure the block is original to the vehicle based on the serial number stamped on the boss behind the oil filter. I also suspect the block is cracked, so I might be looking for an MB block from January or August of 1945 if my original block can’t be repaired.

Thanks,

John

Thanks John.  I will do some additional cleaning to find those numbers.

Pretty sure that casting head had 3A applications as well.  Is the boss on the front edge drivers side drilled and tapped for a waterpump bypass hose?
