Can you guys who are experienced with these trailers give me any insight as to what I have here?  Do you see anything I need to correct?  Where do I find a data plate on this?

I see you have another post about the data plate. Please get your trailer info (of course no SN because of MIA data plate) to Art on our Bantam website:

You have a later model bantam based upon what I can see.

Please check out the fulton coupler section.  That is what originally came on your trailer, not that horrendous thing there now.  However it looks like they took the fulton and welded it onto that pipe.  Try to get it off without ruining it, as they are scarce.

It looks like there is a full length hinge on the tailgate - that must have been added by PO, as that is not original.

Does the landing leg work?

Also someone cut a tailight hole on the passenger side - they originally come with only one tailight on driver's side.

I can't tell but is there rust through on the bed?

Body wise it looks in pretty good shape.

Welcome to the fold and good luck with the restoration.

The landing leg is seized.  I need to try and free it.  Are there replacement hinge parts for this?  Rust through is not too bad.  I am sure when I sandblast it, it will reveal a few pin holes along with maybe more sizable ones.  My brother in law is a welder so I am hoping to use his expertise to patch them when they appear.

Are there parts sources for these trailers like there are for the jeeps?

"Please get your trailer info (of course no SN because of MIA data plate) to Art on our Bantam website"---What exactly do you mean regarding info since I have no data plate?  Is his email or PM address on the website?

Rodney,

There is a email link in the center of the website right above red trailer. Many things I can answer myself through the pictures sent. So please forward me all the pictures you have unedited for size and I can build a page from that.

Based on what I see in the pictures I can probably place your trailer in a sn range but its not a perfect science.

As for replacement parts, sheet metal can be purchased through Jeep Panels Plus (USA made) or through various Jeep suppliers (MD Juan Made) including the landing leg, hitch casting for lunette type, and the leg pivot.

If you use good penetrating oil and still can not free it, you may have to either remove the whole casting in order to soak the entire assembly or devis a way to do it on the trailer. May even try a little heat as well.

Gale on the forum found a close match to hinges as a welding supply I believe.

Art,

Thank you very much for your detailed reply and offer to post on a page.  My pictures were taken with an SLR, so they are pretty big, at 2-3 MB a piece.  Can I email you those size of files?  Or do you know of a way of "dumbing" down the detail to make them smaller etc?
