Finally got the tail painted, wires ran and the new tail lights mounted. Salvaged the original reflectors which look pretty darn good after cleaning them up, painting and putting on a couple coats of clear coat. The clear coat really cleared the reflector lens also, look almost new. Thanks for the tip on the "Model A" LED tail lights WeeWilly and the license plate bracket from Art fits right up and very secure! Well, I got a few repairs done to the tailgate and all painted but not quite sure I like the black exterior, but very happy with the way the inside of the gate came out. The inside of the box will be solid black and the extern same green as the jeep. Have also been working on the side racks while waiting for paint to dry. Edited by BENSH - 05 Sep. 2014 at 4:45pm |

Hi Sir,
congrats for your job !! Could you tell me how do you connect the rear tail lights ? I want to know (if you have some photos) how did you attached the tail lights wire in the front of the trailer and how the wire is connected to the jeep. Thanks in advance Cheers,

I just used a standard pigtail wired/spliced into the rear jeep tail lights, then a standard trailer pigtail wired to the tail lights but the big thing is the Grote digital converter I had put on my firewall when I first ran the LED lights throughout the jeep, all except for the headlights - which are still QUITE pricy. I'll get you the number of the Grote converter and try to post tomorrow. The trailer wiring rig is standard parts store stuff. The converter sences the connection signals between brake and other functions so I am told. I just know it works and am very happy with it. Good, safe, bright signals. - There are only two wires on each light and directions are simple. The lights came from Snyders Antique Auto parts on-line store. ** Just remembered I did have to put in another signal box back on the frame and run the tail light signal wires in through it and out to the trailer pigtail. I'll look for the name & number of the part and get back to you. I just attached this auxiliary box back on the frame where it joins the bumper. I do recall they said to make sure it stays dry so I sealed it up by wrapping rubberized tape around it when attaching to the frame. I've not had any problems.

Charlie Jeep, I ran all the wires for turn & stop lights by hand. The stop & tail lights are separate lights. Since they are LEDs I had to use a special flasher which is a Grote PN44010.
Since the brake and tail lights are separate I had more wires that usual to go to the trailer so I used a Curt Tail light Converter #56130 which converted the three wire jeep lights at the back end to the two wire trailer harness. The converter knows the difference between brake and turn signal being powered by the way you hook up each end of the box - in & out. Both units came with simple, easy to follow directions and my parts guy knew just what I was trying to do and provided what would be needed without confusion. I really didn't have any trouble getting it all to come together without a hitch and I now have big, bright brake lights and separate and independent double turn signal lights on both sides of the vehicle so no on can miss seeing me. Hope this helps. I didn't take any pictures because there is nothing really to show of the wires or boxes once you have the numbers. If you want to see a picture of the lights at night just let me know and I'll shoot a little video of the light show for you. Good luck with your safety project. |
