Hi Seth,
The front bow assembly is supposed to lean backwards 3 degrees. This way if you have a half cab, the cab curtain does not hit the seat backs and allows for more storage in the bed. Your bows do not look like the lean backwards. |

Ok, I will check them and make sure they lean back 3 degrees and see how it looks. Thanks!

You have a 3A tub.
If the bow pockets on the wheel houses are in their original position, they are a couple inches closer to the rear than they are on a 2A tub. This may contribute to your fitment issues.

Im not sure if mine are in the correct spot or not. They are 2.250 back the edge of the wheel well to the front edge of the pocket. after talking to Jpet, I got the correct angle on the bows. Then I had to lengthen the 3 pieces that got the windshield. Once i did that it seems to fit much better. I put a bunch of miles on yesterday and slack wasnt too bad even at 55 mph. The best part of this top is the free tech support. Thanks Jpet!

I know this topic was started years ago but does anyone out there still have full size patterns for the CJ2a canvas top? I'm a bit laid up with some ankle surgery and I'm learning to sew and I'm going to tackle making a canvas top for my Jeep. Any help would be appreciated!

Go to page 8 and all the measurements are there. Jeff did a great job of documenting all his work and research in this forum. Jim

Hi All,
I'm looking to confirm some dimensions for CJ3A: I'd like to get the measurements from the center point of the windshield. Most of the dimensions I have a pretty good idea of what they are but I don't have a 3A to confirm them. I assume a CJ3A has the same outer geometry as a 3B? I'm working on better 3A/3B patterns. Thanks in advance. |

A-26.75" @ center inside top of frame to top edge of cowl.
B-67.5" @ center inside top of frame to straightedge @ tub rear os edge. C-27.5" from back edge of bow socket to straightedge @ tub rear os edge. If you need anything else just holler. I shot you a PM W/PH# just in case. Muley.. Edited by RICKG - 03 Jan. 2020 at 7:53pm |

Thanks guys I think we are close:
... using a 27" dimension for the windshield height @ 16° tilt would make the distance from the front edge of the windshield to the back of the tub 67.5 so that checks out. I put a dimension of 34.25 from the windshield to the front bow assembly because that is how long the rod between them is but this does not quite check out. Either, 1. The distance "D" is not 34.25" 2. The bows do not lean back 3° Can I get someone to give me dimension "D"? Also, I'd like to get the dimension for "E". This is the vertical door jam rod. I'm looking for a dimension from the rod to the front bow assembly. Thanks guys. I have enough info now to get started at least. I'f I can get dimension "D", I can make a roof pattern. |

Here is the start of my 3A patterns:
The outer radii of the windshield are 3" and the arc between is 3/4" higher tangent to tangent. The magenta colored line represents the fabric cut line leaving 1/2" around the perimeter for a hem and the bottom extends 3/8" below the coping slot. If you want the bottom flush with the coping slot, subtract 3/8". Since most of you can't print out large sheets of paper, i have broken this up into 4 files. each one is to scale if printed on 11 x 17 paper: CJ3A_Front_1.pdf CJ3A_Front_2.pdf CJ3A_Front_3.pdf CJ3A_Front_4.pdf You can print these 4 files out 1:1, overlap them as shown below, and tape them together: The prints overlap by 4" so you can use the border lines to line everything up and tape them together, then cut out the pattern on the broken magenta line. the outside of the patter should measure 53-1/3" long which is 1" wider than the windshield. More patterns to come as I get more information. |
