This was in a 1948 No telling if original or not. It's a Thelander clutch? Note the difference on the spring adjustments.

Low's is the later Auburn clutch, introduced late '48, w/spring steel clips.

Yours is the original earlier clutch, w/wire springs.

This Thelander pressure plate was in Lefty. I wasn't sure if it was original as eveyone said Auburn was. Almost everything I've found on Lefty has turned out to be original.Big smile

When replacing the clutch plate, being unsure of the originality I opted to use the pressure plate supplied with the entire kit. Dang it! However I must pull the engine and investigate the noise that's been intermitant and bothersome. I'll probably put the Thelander back where it belongs at that time.

Also Sean have you followed the post about those clips by the adjustment screws like on the one Low posted? Are those supposed to be removed at installation or do they stay in place? I left mine on there but some have said to remove them.

This helps: Auburn/Thelander clutch

Yes, I did post it there too.  They are the later style redesign Auburn, as noted in SB 49-22.  They take the place of the wire springs, and remain in place.
