Hi, I've seen in many pictures of your jeeps other vehicles in the background. Many of us also specialize in vehicles other than 2As. I thought I'd start a thread inviting you to show off your other other projects.

Here's my old 77 Celica I got out of a junkyard and restored the year before I left on my mission and my wifes 78 CJ5.

This one keeps getting sidelined but will be neat to get it going.  It is a Mity Kat Tractor (crawler/dozer).

After 10 years in my possession, I got it running again, but the tracks are shot.  They came apart on the other side.  It has a 6v electrical system and I pulled the batt from the 2a to get it going.  I have the dozer blade for it and the hydraulics seem to work...amazing.  It has been about 25 years since this thing has worked and it sat outside most of that time.

Nice Celica, Don't see many of those running around, esp. on the east coast. My other other project is a 1964 David Brown 880e 43 horse diesel tractor. I have done very little to the cosmetics of it, but when I got it (for $800) the three point did not work. It took me about two weeks of reading the manual and talking to people who knew about them to figure it out. $60 later it worked just fine. I also added a loader to it, after much modification to the loader brackets, then I made my own power steering for it out of various pieces parts. It took me two weeks in the evenings to get the bracket for the p.s. pump and alternator just right. Then I had to plumb all of the hydraulic lines. It has worked out great. The first image is before the power steering upgrade, the second is the pump and smaller alternator installed. I had VERY limited room in there so I had to ditch the Delco alternator for a smaller one. Also, the power steering pump is a KRC that came off one of the circle track cars. You can vary the output by changing orifices.

Sorry about the picture and I am not sure if this counts or not, but in the fall of 2009 this followed me home. It is a 1953 Chevy cab & chassis, 6 cylinder, 4 speed, Camaro rearend, stock front axle w/disc brakes. Currently I am getting the motor peripherials done (hoses, fuel lines electric etc etc etc). I spend about 2 hours everynight tinkering on it. I call it "Pat the Rat". I know its not a Willys Jeep but I love old rusty American junk.

This is my daily driver. 1959 Chevy 3100 (Apache) stepside. Found it in a field in Malad Idaho. Previous owner had put a 327 from an old car into the truck. That engine ran strong, but the oil pressure dropped to almost nothing once warmed up. Though about rebuilding it and finally decided to just go for a 350 crate engine. Lazy I guess. I found a place that sells 5 speed overdirve Tremec transmissions with the cases worked to fit about anything so I bolted on one of those. Now the thing still looks ugly but it is quite the screamer, at least for me. Haven't had so much fun driving anything since my high school car, a 63 Mercury Monterey Marauder  (that thing was a big boat, but it could really go with the factory 390 and 4 barrel).
Just had to replace the rear tires on the truck. Too many burnouts I guess.

I picked this up in February. It's a 1968 SAAB Sonett V4. Only about 1800 were produced between 68 and 69. Loud, and pretty quick. Handles kind of like a go cart. It'll be going in for paint this December.

Good topic! My other project is still in the planning stage, I'm thinking either a Vtec powered Mini from the 70's 80's or 90's or a Land Rover Defender 110. I'm taking all advice but leaning towards the Landy.

Nice Gale!! Guess there is a loophole in the system now because my cousin just imported a nice 1986 Land Rover 110 to the States from England and it's totally ligit! His is powered by 200Tdi, I told him to find one repowered with a newer Td5. He says it's like driving a tractor with 4 doors, I laughed and told him driving my 2A is driving a tractor. Yours is petrol right?

Yes mine is gas (petrol to youLOL), 86 is the newest one can import right now (the law is 25 years old or older for exemptions). My favorite is a 97 D90 (it has roll up windows), but prices on Defenders are way beyond what I'm willing to shell out (25K and up). It does bring me back to my roots though, the first dealership I worked at was the local LR dealer here in Seattle (a long long time agoLOL), then I worked for them again 2001-2003, but got my fill of working on air suspensions and stuff like that.

Robbie, I'd be interested in the 4x4 for sure, I'm wanting to convert one of mine, but that'd sure save me some work! The GMC burb, is my parts truck I hauled it in from Winchester. Only problem I have now is finding that money tree LOL!

I love those old hit and miss engines Brian! It is totally amazing how the old timers could get so much work out of a 1 1/2 horse engine just by using such a big fly wheel. Really cool!
I have been looking for an old H&M for a while now. I just missed a "freebee" buy a few weeks.

I like the York set-up, I had one on my 99TJ. I would use it to air up coming off the beach, it sure beat waiting for an hour to use the coin op ait machine and it ment I could get off the beach at different trails where there was no air.
It's a nice YJ too looks like fun!

I think that's a D110 with a pickup bed on it. I have trouble keeping track because there are so many variations. We don't see that many over here because a lot of the specialized types weren't imported due to various certification/DOT conflicts. If you look back at page 1 you'll see I have a smaller and older version of that.LOL

Recognize those back windows and was looking to put them with a plane.  What Motor?  Are you doing the fabric.  Here is my 48 Cessna 170, aluminum body , cloth wings.  Got a few hours in last week.  Still not tail dragger certified.

That's a very nice airplane, Love the finish! The Aeronca has a Continental 65hp, however has the engine mount to accept the C85 and set up for float fittings.. which would be nice at one point. I'm not sure exactly how we plan to recover, but most likely... due to cost efficiency, probably attend a few seminars and attempt it ourselves. I'm not certified yet, either... I've been flying with my dad since I've been three years old though and I guess flying always stuck...

VERY nice wings guys! Clap

Wish I were back your way, could get you tailwheel checked (CFI single, multi & no-engine).  Got my intro in a J-3 (most fun I've ever had w/an engine!), then more time in Super Cubs, Stinsons, Citabrias, Decathlons, and started on Stearmans (but had to move Cry).

Once ya switch, ya never wanna go back! LOL

I know this thread is old but I think we should bring it back.
My other project is a 1941 Ford GP. It’s a fun little vehicle and very different from the CJ2A for only having 4 years separate them.

My Dad and Brother also love mid sixties Fords and my Brother picked up a 1964 Ford Thunderbird Barnfind which we cleaned up and got running and driving for the first time in 44 years.

I have a 1964 Thunderbird convertible, bought it in July 1978.  Wife & I drove it to hot August nights back in 1999, it's pretty much sat unused in my garage ever since. Kind of lost interest in it.

This is what I worked on day and night last summer. 1978 f250 ranger 4x4 Supercab trailer special.  cleaned and degreased sooo much crud off of the front and rear axles and as much frame as I could reach from bumpers inward to past the spring perches and wire wheeled all parts I could and degreased again with toothbrushes and dawn dish soap and water and prepped with ospho to convert the remaining rust then rattle canned with VHT chassis and roll bar paint, it was a LOT of work but looks really good. On the front I replaced ball joints, all seals and bearings (except carrier bearings) brake lines, replaced calipers, rotors, did 4 wheel disc conversion on the rear, replaced brake distribution valve, new master cylinder and did hydroboost swap. Pulled the entire interior and wirewheeled the floors and treated with ospho and used a scuff pad on the interior paint, prepped, taped and repainted the interior and dash and replaced the weatherstripping. It Looked good.  after some test driving and checking systems and bedding the brakes I took it to town to return the brake flaring tool I rented. I heard a pop after coming across some railroad tracks so when I got to the parts store I checked and everything seemed ok. Stopped at a friend’s house on the way back and saw gear oil pouring out of the rear axle seal on the driver side. Got it it home and pulled things apart... yep, Grenaded the bearings. One of the only things I didn’t replace was the rear inner and outer wheel bearings and spindle nuts. They looked ok and I had ran out of truck money so I reused them. The spindle nut washers had me worried and I should have listened to my gut. I think that’s what caused it. A couple locking tabs on the spindle nut washers looked weak, but instead of breaking them off or buying new ones I went against my gut feeling. I am fairly certain the tabs broke off and got in the bearings. Everything was torqued by the book and I followed correct procedure for preloading the bearings. The driver side outer wheel bearing exploded and the passenger side outer. The spindle on the driver side is chewed up pretty good. They’re weld on spindles also so No quick easy spindle replacement. So it sits until I can formulate a plan and save the money. Then I can get it back out of the shop and get my Jeep in the shop! Anyway... goodtimes! LOL

I bought this one in May of 2019...blew it completely apart...currently getting an old school black iron pipe roll cage installed...frame was really crusty
when I got it...I had not fiddled with an early Ford since the 1970's...felt good to be tinkering with one again...always wanted an old Jalopy and what better one than a 1940 Ford...supposedly has history in the state of New Jersey at Vineland Speedway and Atlantic City Speedway also....
Hoping to be putting a motor and tranny in it this coming summer

To all,

This is my current "other project".

1964 Ford Ranchero

Photo is current, doing mechanical work on her now. Paint will come after mechanical work is completed. Currently in the process of putting in a Disc brake set up on the front axle as well as a double reservoir power brake booster. The Disc brake setup should be better to slow down the big ole 260 CI with the three on the tree.

You'all have some cool stuff. Love that dozer. I could use one of those.
Here's the latest project. '63 Nova SS. Just had it painted and I'm redoing the interior all stock in red. 350 that came from my Dad's '71 GMC Suburban, Muncie 4 speed, Ford 9", 4 link, Cpp minisubframe. Will look all stock on the outside.

That is wicked! Someone down my road has a car that looks very similar, also has a racing number. I did a double-take to check your location.

This is my 1993 Mazda RX-7. During this winter I've stripped down the engine bay and did a 3-stage paint job. I bought a fully built 2-rotor that's ported, high oil pressure, 2000cc injectors, 66 mm turbo. Factory was 275 hp. Dyno tuning this may with hopes of 550 whp (630 "crank" hp). At 2,700 lbs. it should be a whistling rocket ship.

Other parts are in-tank surge tank w/ Hellcat fuel pump, Haltech ecu system with digital dash, Ohlins coilovers... It's gotten out of hand. This dream build is a gift to myself for making it through school. The last hurrah before I become """responsible""".

I have a good friend that has restored several cars. He bought a similar 40 Ford that was an old drag car. It had an old ladder frame, the whole floor was cut out of it, and it was sitting in a junk yard in MI. When he got it home, he realized they must have picked it up by the roof to remove it from the pile of cars it sat in. The roof was squeezed in. He hammered it all out and straightened out the drip rails, welded a new floor and firewall in it, leaded in all the dents he couldn't hammer out, then put a stroked 460 in it with a C6 and Ford 9 inch. He did a candy striped red/white tuck & roll interior. It's such a cool car. Lightweight, very fast, and it's all Ford.
I love those RX7's too. That's going to be killer.

OK Nick, now you have officially made me feel OLD.

I designed and tested the Goodyear Eagle tires that were on your RX-7 from the factory.
I spent 2 weeks at the Mazda Miyoshi Proving Grounds with KOJIMA and  Maebayashi, the 2 engineers that designed the 2 degrees of complaint steer on your rear axle  and patented the hub.

I thought that was around 1987...

That's awesome!! I'll trade you a ride in the car for your signature somewhere on the interior. It would be a nice piece of history.

I hate to beat a man when he's down, but I was negative 10 years old in 1987 LOL

Joe, How about the GLHS? You must have been around for the GLHS. I bought one right after getting out of college in 1990. It was a good car and my wife loved it.

Yup. I was there when Shelby came to Akron multiple times for Engineering meetings and track testing.
The tire designer that sat in front of me handled it, and he bought a metallic blue GLHS. He owned it just long enough to scare the crap out of me.

I sold it 10 years ago to a guy in Sterling Heights MI. I'm sure it's still around. I sold it for $500 less than the $7000 I paid for it. Not a bad investment.
