Well,

Mine is about three weeks away from light off, so just about time for hunting season. I am near Leadville, great jeeping places!
gnkhoffman, I'll call you when I get off work this week!

I have wanted to get one going for some time.  I had kinda given up.  I have a 47 2a that is 98% restored to original, another waiting its turn, and a 45 gpw in the shop now with the frame and axles almost done.  I participate in the MVCC (military vehicle collectors of Colorado) to get my monthly fix of jeep stuff but only a few of those guys have jeeps.  I could get into a nice summer event and maybe a winter get together.

Send me an email if you are interested in a small meeting to get things rolling.  Where are most of you from?  I am in Lafayette but travel to Denver for work.  The last event I did was OD jamboree at Lowery AFB and showed off my jeep under the wing of a B-1 Bomber.  Maybe in a week or two we could meet for dinner at a place easy for all to get to. My email is mailto:fladwig@msn.com - fladwig@msn.com

Well, I missed most of this conversation because I was "up yonder" in pursuit of the elusive Wapiti! Problem is I get to 4-wheelin' and explorin' and forget I'm supposed to be huntin'! Nelybel, my '53 CJ3B did great, as usual. Had a great time tho & hated to come home an' go back to work.

Would love to get together with you guys, get something goin'. Maybe we can still do a trip together yet this year. Not for long tho, Colo. winter's on the way, an Nelybel has no top or heater. But now's not too soon to be talkin' about next summer. Hope you all sent Lew an E-mail, I'm gonna do that right now.  BW

This weekend is Cider Days at the old farm in Arvada at the intersection of Wadsworth and Ohio.  If you can get to Denver this weekend many of us old jeepers will show our 2a's at this event.  If you are a member of the MVCC you should get in for free.  I don't know if they charge admission or not.  My guess is not.  It runs from 9 to 5 both Sat and Sun.

Maybe I'll see ya there on Sat.  I will have the Harvard Red '47.

I would be game for a get together.  Maybe we could meet at the Brewery Bar II down at 2nd and Kalamath on Saturday afternoon?  They have the best green chilli in town.  That is a central location.  I don't know what the weather is supposed to be.  My 2a does not have a top or a heater.  Know of any original top bows for sale?

Sounds good to me-- Green chili, beer, an' "tail-gate-4-wheelin'" (We used to call it "Bench-Racin'").  What could be better than that?

What time, Lew, and how's the best way for me to find it, comin' from Greeley?

It didn't come together.  I probably could meet Saturday (The Jeep is in the Mines Homecoming parade Saturday morning, but after that I would be available).  I too am on the west side of Denver (actually in Lakewood, almost to Golden).  Even if no one else can make it, it would be great to see your jeep.

 Ok guys,

Let's get this club started.  How about we meet at the Brewery Bar II located at 2nd and kalamath in Denver on Saturday the 11th of November at 3pm.  The place should be quiet then with lots of room.  They have the best green chilli in town.  We could talk jeep all we want.  I will pass the word to every flat fender guy I know of.  Please do the same.  If the weather is nice I will drive my '47 down there from Lafayette.  I think this is a good spot as it would be central for guys comming down from the hills, Fort Collins, and Colo Springs.  Drive your jeep if you can.  We can set up the basics for a club.  How about the CFFC?  Colorado Flat Fender Club.  If the weather is lousy then bring a picture of your jeep.  Email me or post here if you are planning on going!

See Ya There!

Just wanted to thank Daron and his great wife for hosting the latest meeting of the CFFC. We had a great time. I didn't get home until midnight. Daron's movies from W-O were great. Anyone owning a 2a should have a copy. The agrijeep that Daron is working on looks great. I think it will be running soon. Jim's stories of looking for parts were great. You can tell he has the hunter instinct when it comes to jeep stuff. It is amazing to hear the details discussed. If the time, food, and drink would last long enough we would be talking about the correct molecules that should be in the steel of a jeep nut. I think Bruce gets the travel award for comming down from northern Colorado.
Thanks all for a good time,
Lew

Sorry for the low CFFC activity.  I have been very busy with work and family and just keep running out of time.  We have an event we can do in Scotts Bluff on Nov. 11.  We will meet in the morning and go to the vet's home.  Take those who want a ride and do their parade thru down town.  It is a big event in that town.  After that we will take Fred's GPA for a swim in a local lake.  I plan on a pit stop at Cabela's on the way home.

Happy New Year! to all Colorado FlatFender Club "Members".  I don't know about you-all, but I've got a BAD case of cabin fever. Got the '48 out today for a while, but it was too cold for much time spent. Plus it's not much fun alone.
Let's start working on a get-together, spring isn't that far off.(It can't get here too soon for me!) Maybe we could get together to plan a get-together.
I've been thinkin' on a trip up thru Cherokee Park an' down thru Red-Feather Lakes, or a loop thru Cherokee. I think we could do a Sunday ride, all gravel roads, or an overnighter with some two-trackin'. Not much real four-wheelin' to be found up there anymore, but some real nice scenery, and probably some wildlife. Let me know if you like the idea.  I'm sure lots of you know some good places too.  BW

BW,

Sounds good to me.  How about you plan an event and let us all know when, where, what.?  From past trips I believe you need a route that takes us past both gas and food on a regular basis.  A good view and changing scene helps too.  I would also say very mild off road with out much gravel spinning as folks are worried about breaking lights and windows and chipping new paint ( myself included! ).  I have found that only a small portion will make any event but if we plan lots of events then we will get everyone sooner or later.  Pick a meeting point where we can park trailers for those who will do that.  Since many of us are long legged we need many stops to get out and stretch.  Most don't have gerry cans for extra gas so we need gas stops.  I would also plan a rain day incase the weather is bad.  About 50% don't have tops and heaters.

I am game.  I can't wait for spring!

Lew, I can understand your concern about gravel&paint, If my 2A was as nice as yours I would be that way too. If we keep some interval & go slow we should be alright. As soon as I can I'll try to pre-run a route or two with the Cherokee, trying to keep the speed down, and plan something. Maybe even, a day trip in the Spring, and an overnighter later in the Summer. CFFC members, Whadya think?  BW

It'd be great to have them Lew. I gotta get out of the Cabin soon... Wacko  A few of us are going to take a run up into the Cherokee Park area soon in "modern" four-wheelers, I'll get to see how my '88 Cherokee does. Won't tell me much about time &c as pertains to a Summer trip in 2A's, but maybe I can work out some pent-up energy!  BW

BW,
I just got back from the MVCC meeting and the boys said they would like to join in on a easy ride with the CFFC when things warm up.  Things they suggested was easy mountain roads with a possible 4x4 loop for those that want to.  Also, lots of pit stop places for the wives to use the can.  And of course places to eat!

email me a copy of your planned route and I will shoot it past Hugh with the MVCC and see if they have any major gripes that would prevent them from joining.  We should also start picking out possible dates to see what does and does not work.  I will act as the link to the MVCC.  I think we might even get Fred to bring his GPA!  Maybe he will take it into Carter Res.!

Attention all CFFC members and other Colorado flat fender owners!  Jeep season is about here.  We want to plan many events for this summer.  If you have an idea please let me know what you want to do.  Maybe a mild trail ride or a smooth highway cruise.  Or just a Saturday afternoon at the local sonic drive-in.  You decide, layout the plan, and pick a time and place.  Not all will make it but hopefully a few will.  We all have conflicts that keep us from doing all events but maybe we can make a few.  Let us know right here or email me your plan at: mailto:fladwig@msn.com - fladwig@msn.com .  Bruce is planning an event up north, we need some for the Denver area and some down south.  Maybe our mountain friends could pick a mid summer event up there.  I'll post a few soon.

On Saturday, March 31, at 11 am to 4 pm, the Colorado School of Mines students (society of automotive engineers) is hosting their annual car show in conjunction with E-Days (engineering days).  $20 to enter your car.  Free to come look at the cars. I have taken my 1946 CJ2A each year for the last 4 years; always a great time.

Lew:

You get a T-shirt;  there are typically door prizes given away too.  We are in the process of getting donations for the door prizes.

The students build a car each year, and go back to the mid-west to compete against other college students.  Any money they net from the car show us used to help defer the costs for them to go back to compete.  This year they are building a baja vehicle (usually a tig welded frame, not much larger than a really big gocart, pretty trick suspension, low hp engine).

I haven't decided if I am taking the Jeep this year, or if I am taking my mid-engine V8 Corvair.

Thumbs%20Up  Looks like Bruce has us lined up for a June ride up around Red Feather Lakes or there abouts.  I'm working on a ride over Black Bear Road for mid-late July.  That one could be a high country campout.

I'd also like to propose a September trip over Aspen Ridge between Buena Vista and Salida.  It's an easy to moderate ride along an aspen covered ridge with great views of the Collegiate Peaks and the Sangre de Cristo range.  It goes thru one of the largest aspen clones in the US.  Runs along the east edge of the proposed Browns Canyon Wilderness area.  Lots of options for extending the ride or making loops the following day.  Good motels available in BV or Salida.  Mt. Princeton Hot Springs is just a few miles away (101 degree pool!) for those achy muscles.  Good restaurants all around or we could host a Bar-B-Que at my place.

Whadya think????

Larry,
We sure did.  We have done a few very nice trail rides and a couple of get togethers with the zen masters of the willys world.  I'll add you to the list.  If you have an idea of a good trail ride or event please send me an email and I'll post it and email it to the CFFC.

Hey! Started the thread but got distracted by crap of life....Now I am back and my Willy's is alive and well. Had to do some mods, but have updated the mill with a Flathead Ford V8. Small power increase, great torque increase, and sounds frickin' AWESOME! I now reside in Golden, so who's in my area? Lew, could you check to see if I am on the list of members?

CFFC,
We have added a couple new folks to the list in the last few weeks.  I think we need to plan a lunch or dinner some place central.  Maybe another trip to the Brewery Bar II or some where we can get a big table.  Don't have to drive the jeep if the weather is bad.  Just a chance to sit and talk jeep.
What do you say?

I'm ready Lew. Maybe this time we can go where there's more room, less noise, and they won't run us offWink.   BW

I'd better clarify that--  They  didn't actually run us off, we had been there quite a while & they needed the table.Embarrassed   BW

OK folks,
We need a place around the metro area where we could meet in a side room so the noise is low and they have a big table to seat all of us.  I don't know of such a place but if you do please speak up!

Hi all,
I hate to say it, but do to tax problems, I'm in the process of selling my 2a and Bantam trailer.
The only good thing is, that they are going to stay in the family. Hey, I could not keep it running anyway.

So, I guess take me off the Flat Fenders mailing list for now.

I'll get another flatty someday.Smile

Attention all jeep lovers,
Just to let you know, if you would like to be able to go jeeping with a great bunch of folks in the Colorado High country, then you should sign up with the CFFC.  That's the Colorado Flat Fender Club.

We plan nice trail rides, get togethers and such.  Our trail rides are great.  Not something that will break your jeep, but a reason to put it in 4x4 and low range.

You will never meet better folks.  And you don't need to be from Colorado!!

We have several members from as far away as the east coast.

You can even plan you own event!!  No dues, no forced meetings, no rules except to have good family fun with your flat fender jeep!

Don't have a jeep?  We can find you a ride!  But I warn you, after that first ride you will start shopping for a jeep.

Just drop me a note or give me a call.

Hi A\W, I'm not tryin' to steal Lew's thunder, but I know he's pretty busy these days. Besides, that's one of the things we do in the CFFC, is pitch in & help each other out.
Skip on over to the "Shows and Get-Togethers" forum, and check out the rides we have planned for this summer, and read about the great times we've had in the past. Check out the "Northern Colorado Mountain Run 2010" thread (this one is less than two weeks away),  "CFFC Mid Summer Run" and "Colorado Fall Color Tour 2010". You can scroll down and read all about the Mountain Run and the Color Tour events in the past. The Mid Summer Run is new this year.
We are all glad to hear from you, and hope to see you in the near future!  BW

We sure are.  Our spring ride, the Northern Colorado mountain run is probably off due to the virus.  The Fall Colors tour is still a go so far.
Much chatter is on the IFFC fb page and major event chatter is here on the cj2a page.

The next event:
The next CFFC event will be June 3rd at Lee's ranch west of Sedalia, Colorado.  Any vehicle pre 1972 is welcome.  We will have an easy trail around the fence line to take kids jeeping.  This will be all day.  If you need to camp that night, you can.
