Hi All,

Just to let everyone know that since the Fall Reunion is going to take a year off, the Midwest Willys Reunion committee has decided to have a summer reunion in Effingham, IL on August 29-31 August 22-24. It will be held at the Holiday Inn. The hotel and parking lot are right off of the interstate where I-57 and I-70 are merged.

The details are still being worked out. For now all I know is that it will follow the same format as the Spring and Fall get togethers an that the "Willys Nelson Band" will be performing. Hope you all can make it.

You will have to be there to find the answer to both questions.

The band will be singing your favorite Willys jeep songs including some songs written by our fallen friend westforkboyd.

.... I just realized that too. Let's talk about it. Is that a bad thing? For me it's a good thing. Gives you an extra day to get your stuff home and put away before work.

The hotel is booked all the weekends in September so if it is not that weekend, it would have to be earlier.

Thoughts?

JPET,

I think I'm out if its Labor Day weekend. Too much going on with the kids going back to school. Plus I've usually burned through all my Willys points for the year by then for such a big trip. Its not like I live close like in Alabama...

We'll send you some calendars for door prizes though.

Both of those weekends are tricky for me due to school starting.  Labor day weekend might be better due to the extra day off, but then again, we do not usually have big plans on Labor Day like some may.  My two cents is that you need to pick a day and say "this is the date"  I will do my best to be there whatever the date is.

BTT.

The committee would like to get some feedback from the members who would consider coming. Which weekend works the best?

The hotel and facilities are available August 22-24 and the following weekend August 29-31.

Thanks to those who have already responded.

At your service.

Thanks for the feedback thus far. To keep everyone in the loop, I talked to Dave Hutson today. He can't do labor day weekend but can likely do 22-24. He is going to check his schedule and confirm. If Dave can do the 22nd -24th, that will likely be the dates. If he is out either way, it would likely be Labor Day weekend based on the responses I've got here and via PM/email.

Bob, I think you will have to take that up with my 7 year old. He already wants to know when his older siblings go off to college, does he get the Jeep?

Doug, that is a good approach, I didn't think of that- I see why you are a teacher now Big smile. The week leading up to it, I'll have to leave my dirty clothes on the floor more, toilet seat up etc.

Bill - You should do what I did for my wife. The first year we were married, I bought here a "magic" clothes basket.  I'm not exactly sure how it works but all you do is throw your clothes in the basket, or at least in the proximity of the basket, and some how your clothes are magically washed, dried, folded, and put in your dresser!!  One time I even left a shirt on the couch which is even in a different room than the magic basket but it still ended up clean and in my dresser.  It is totally amazing!

I've never been to a Willys Reunion before, but from reading past threads about them they look like a good time - even in the rain!  I've lived in the mountains for a long time and guided many many Willys trips through them.  I've also been around Jeeps for decades and know my way around them pretty well.  But not having been around a Willys Reunion before I might need some guidance on how to make the most of my time while I'm there.  How about it?  Any of you regulars got some good advice for me??

Well it's not the same as climbing Mt Princeton, but then there are no vendors at the top of Mt Princeton either!. You will probably be busy meeting your friends from around the country who up to that point were cyber friends. The jeeps are fun. You get to see lots of different ag applications. You also get to see other types of Willys like trucks, FC, jeepsters, etc, as well as more modern CJ5s modified, and what not. I am going to push some local military organizations as well. Since Electro-Willys will be there I hope that more people will come to see that so you might be pretty busy answering questions. Probably the most fun for me is sitting in the cj2apage.com tent just visiting with all y'all. . The Colorado FCT guys should rent a van or something and come east.

Now that the Willys picnic is over, this is the next large gathering so I'm going to bump up the chatter.

To let everyone know, There are going to be gift certificates and other door prizes and raffles from some of the following vendors:

Midwest Willys
Walcks
Ron Fitzpatrick
Kaiser Willys
Summit Racing
Willys America
Norris/Banonis

Bob, let me know if I'm leaving anybody out.

If anyone wants to offer door prizes or raffle items, please let me know and Thank you!

Hotel Reservations:

You can call the Holiday Inn and make reservations at the front desk.  The number is 217-540-7777.  Make sure you let them know you are with the Willys Reunion.  If you make your reservation using the 800 number you will be making the reservation through corporate.  If so, let them know you are with the Willys Reunion and the discount code is WJR.  The hotel is very easy to find.  Basically if you are coming into Effingham on either I-57 or I-70 you will be able to see the reunion from the Interstate.  Take exit 160 and follow the jeeps.  Plenty of trailer parking too.

Food:
Besides the hotel restaurant, there is also a Cracker Barrel, TGI Fridays, Ruby Tuesday, Dennys, and Stake-N-Shake all within flat fender distance or even walking distance.  They also have the usual fast food restaurants; McDonalds, Wendys, Subway, Long John Silvers, Burger King, Arbys ....

If anyone needs any special accommodations,  please let me know and I will do whatever I can for you.

Thanks for reading

Check or paypal does not matter.  Your convenience is most important.  Eventually all the registrations and money are going to Bob so you can send it his way.

Thanks Jeff....due to time frame of the trip and all I kinda even hate to tear into it. That would pretty much seal it's fate as far as the Reunion goes.

But I'd like to find out what I'm up against. An engine teardown be it partial or whole isn't going to be fun at this point.

It won't even run well enough to get it out of the shop much less on or off a trailer......I thought about doing that and postponing the teardown till after Effingham....

I guess it's even less than a 'trailer queen' for those that like to use that term derogatorily.

Not tearing into it today for sure......maybe tomorrow.

I understand. You can only do so much. I hope somehow Frankie makes it though cuz he has consistently been the most popular vehicle at the shows and this is a new location. Good luck!

Sorry to hear that Chad.  I have the new suspension pieces for mine on order, so I should at least be able to roll around by Effingham, but I will not have time to do any sheet metal repairs.

Hey all,

It's the big push. Time 2 register.

For those who missed it at the Fall Reunion, Dave is going to do his 2012 Alaskan Convoy presentation again in the afternoon session on Saturday.

..... also, Sunday at 8:00 is going to be a cruise through town.

I'm really looking forward to seeing all y'all again!

Just had a thought......first it was Doug's accident...but he's got parts coming so here should be there but not
whole.

Then there's 'Frankie's ailment.....

Last but not least we have the host's project Bam Bam......due to work constraints it's not as far along as once anticipated.

Was just wondering if there was going to be a 'Special Recuperative Section' in the parking lot for the wounded.......maybe a special 'healing' section?

Yea, Electro-Willys could spend some time there.  It's ambulatory, but I'm chasing a short that has me stumped.

I'm just glad you guys are coming and bringing your jeeps running or not. I appreciate it greatly.

I figure we should put all the non running vehicles in the hotel lobby as a show room with red velvet carpet and "Don't touch" posters all over the place!

Not sure if it's appropriate to put this here but it's not really a For Sale post. It's a head-up for anybody going to Effingham to score parts.
I'm bringing a load of parts. What's left after the show will be posted in the official For Sale forum.

If it's not cool to put this here, let me know and I'll move it or kill it or whatever.

parts from my '46 2A:
farm counterweight
drawbar w/ 2" ball hitch
PTO complete - shifter to gear box
custom made wheel well cushions
Rancho lift springs and shocks

3B parts:
windshield frame - glass damaged
maybe a T-90/D-18 w/ brake

Wagon:
front PTO system
maybe another T-90/D-18
6-226 block and head
maybe a running 6-226 with bad knock
maybe a 2bbl intake manifold for 6-226

M38:
windshield with good glass

Also what appears to be an original MB or GPW rear seat.

If you want any of this, aren't going to Effingham but a friend is, we can make arrangements. PM me.
