I see where the Spen Trailer serial number has been discussed in a number of threads. I thought it would be handy to place more detail in one thread.

I have a Spen I brought back from Alaska, and may try for a restoration next winter. I tried to locate a serial number (based on where others have said they are found on the passenger frame rail), but was unsuccessful. I stamped the existing homebuilt title number into the frame and had the sheriff give his approval so as to transfer title from Alaska to Wyoming. Eventually I may want to get it registered correctly with its original make and number.

For those of you who have found the original numbers, perhaps we could start a registration thread here?

Pictures would be helpful. I understand the location is the passenger side frame rail, close to the front wall of the trailer box, or in front of the wheel assembly. More detail is needed. Top of rail? Outside vertical surface? That's why pictures would be nice, since these stampings are so hard to find.

Hi Dave.
Interesting post.
I have a Spen trailer and unfortunatelly I´m one of those, that didn´t find any mark on it.
Hope someone can give us information or photos.
Cheers,

What appears to used to be a serial or registration number. It had about 6 numbers from what I can tell. Located on the passenger side panel.

Hi Guys,
after many years searching for the Spen Serial Number, I found it.
I´m posting some photos and maybe one of the forum members can give me some light about the first letter or number.
I don´t know if its a "S" or a "8" or what......
Other digits looks like a "H" and 111
Please see the photos where you can see exactly were the number is stamped.
The numbers were there and was my fault not find them beforeAngryAngry
The first orange photo was after a light work with the sand paper.
Other 2 photos shown exactly the place where numbers appeared.
The last orange photo is interesting, because I tried to looks carefully the "?" digit.
I noted if I continue with the sand paper the number would dissapeared.
Looks like the stamp is very weak and for that reason maybe many people sand blasted the trailer for restore and the Serial number dissapeared.

Hope this photos help to others to find more Spen Serial numbers
Regards and enjoy.

Hey! That is awesome. I’m going to have to have another look at mine. I’ve been all over that frame rail and have seen nothing resembling a number. Thank you.

if you’re asking me - I posted these a few years ago, and not much has changed with the trailer.

They didn't use lug nuts either. They were studs. Some or all were 3/4 ton also. They were the Willys approved trailer as Bantam and Willys were still going to court over who owned the jeep name and design. Willys used Spen so as to deny Bantam trailer sales which would help them finance the court battle.
