Are you planning on tying the angle iron into the side of the tub?
Just to be clear. The long piece of angle along the side of the jeep on the wheelhouse. Edited by Gaffer - 01 Mar. 2019 at 2:52pm |

No I’m not bolting it tonthe side of the tub. It’s getting attached to the frame front underneath the body. No need to drill the side of the tube.

Finished the Cage supports on the driver side. Its 9 degrees here today.... looks like warmer weather next week so it will have to wait.

Really nice, I like that. When I did mine I couldn't figure the compound bends and cuts. I bailed out with bushings and brackets.

Thanks rich! The bends were simple the angle cuts were challenging to get right.

Neat design, Falcon. Did you MIG or TIG the mounts to the frame? What amperage setting did you use to get good penetration on the frame rails?

I tig welded the cage but I mig Welded the frame supports. I was welding at 140 amps. I got good penetration. The frame isn’t very thick. I used 3/16” plates to help spread the load out. The tig worked great for the cage but I’m not good enough to tig weld in the goofy position I was in when I welded the frame.

Makes sense! 140A sounds right for that assembly. Nice work as always. To think of all the roll-bar kits that Jeep owners bought which only bolted to the top of the wheelhouses--relying mainly on the strength of the bolts! Yours appears to be a nice balance of design, structural rigidity, and serviceability--you can pull the tub if necessary.

Finally!
Last time seeing it with no cage.... All the weld were done so I covered the jeep up to paint the cage? I went with a satin Black to match the old top bows Edited by Millennium falcon - 12 Mar. 2019 at 11:11pm |

The design works quite well. Not as bad as the 'net makes it out to be. Of course, how the Jeep will be used should be the deciding factor in bar design and attachment. I have posted a dozen or so pictures on the net over the years of roll over Jeeps with factory bars. You'd be surprised at how well they hold up. I've never seen a Jeep where that design failed and came out of the vehicle. If you have other knowledge of this, please share.

This is the material I used on my body mounts so I added one to between the tub and cage.... I know metal on metal is best but now everything has the same amount of movement. And with 12 grade 8 3/8" bolts it should be fine.
Its 1/8" PVC rubber. Very durable, doesnt compress like regular rubber. |

Looks outstanding .....and I like the choice of satin black. To my eyes gloss black looks out of place and just not 'right'.
Great job on design AND execution. One good looking Jeep! |

Nice work to your usual high fabrication and structural standards, Falcon. Miles beyond kit stuff that's simply bolted to the .065-in. sheet metal wheel houses. Sure, they're better than stock--but what isn't better than a stock 1940s jeep in terms of passenger safety? Thanks for sharing.

This is my favorite mod I’ve been following this winter. If you didn’t know any better you would never know there is a cage in there. Awesome work and I would like to build one for my 2a someday.
