Has anyone ever thought about the possibility of converting a warn overdrive to an underdrive? Think that would be an answer for f&l 134’s.
I contacted advance Adaptors but they just brushed it aside. Probably not enough interest or income from a project like that. If they can machine the od gear why not machine a gear for some deep underdrive ratio?
Just saying.

My opinion Not sure many would want a setup like that, I’ve spent much time behind the wheel of a Flatty both on the flat ground of home and in the mountains. That being said, I would not own a Jeep without an OD, it offers me less engine rpm on the highway at home and many other gear choices off road out west most notably not having to downshift from 2nd to First, I can run 1st or 1st over.... IMO, an underdrive would offer nothing to me other than a Lower crawl ratio in 1st gear, yes I could also split 2nd &3rd but this would offer me nothing on the road. A T90C & OD would be a better option.... Again My Opinion!...

I can't really envision how that would work.

It could give roughly the same kind of splits between 1st and 2nd and between 2nd and 3rd as an overdrive.  You'd just go  1st-direct -> 2nd-underdrive -> 2nd-direct -> 3rd-underdrive -> 3rd-direct.  So you'd be giving up the taller highway gear for a lower 1st / crawl gear.

Not saying it would be the best tradeoff, and certainly not right for some.  But it might be a good option for some.

I think Arron Holdaway of Colorado made one once. Don’t know anything about it though.

Well my l 134 only makes 35 mph so don’t get it on any highways.
Probably get a ticket. Its true the od is really nice on the trails. Have a set of 32’s x 16 that I took off my Rubicon but the flattie won’t turn them. Works good with my 6:00x16’s
Guess that’s the design Willys had in mind.

I found this some time ago. This topic pops up from time to time.

It's a cool idea but needed a lot of custom work.  Something to chew on at least.

Underlining mine.

There is something seriously wrong with your engine! On a bad day mine will do 48 MPH at 5,000 foot altitude. Yours should do 50 MPH. Heck, with Over Drive, (OD), you should see 58-62.

My pickup with 5.38 rear ends, a Buick 225 dauntless engine & OD would do 68+ if you had the guts. The Ross steering needed rebuilt. Anything above 55 got hairy. Since I used it for a "ranch rig", it worked well for me.

How about the old 4 speed they made for the CJ5 and 6? Had one in a 5 and they are set up like a T90 3 speed but with 1st being a granny gear and 4th replacing 3rd gear. T98 (I think?) Should be a simple switch with little change. Hope someone with more knowledge ( That's very easy!) will add their thoughts. Good luck, Bob

I have had a 74 Renegade with a granny low 4 speed and that was a dream. It’s finding them.

I have to agree with cpt logger  that there's something wrong there.  Is your throttle opening up all the way?  Is your engine tuned correctly?  Is your exhaust restricted somewhere?  Something is wrong if you can't get above 35.
