A new month is here, so post up what you have done to your jeep.

I'm happy to say I actually did something on my Jeep today, well, let's say "for" my Jeep today, since I'm still waiting to bring it from CO to MA.

I had a great trip from MA to CT and visited with Jerry and Dana. Jerry let me spend a couple hours documenting #11802, which I think was built within a week or two of my #11662. Since his is in remarkably original condition, I got some great intel from it. I'll be posting images shortly in another thread.

Dana was likewise a pleasure to meet and see his project. He also had a set of critical parts that I needed to make 11662 stock again, which is the column shift assembly and transmission, plus other associated components.

The transmission case has a casting date of November 1, 1945, with an assembly date of February 28, 1946.

From my inspection of Jerry's Jeep, I'm thinking I want to track down components for mine that are dated either September or August of 1945. For example, the casting dates on Jerry's engine and cylinder head are 9 20 and 9 5 respectively, and his axles have assembly dates dating from the same month. I couldn't fully make out the date on his transfer case, but I think it's I 4-5, which I'm interpreting as Sept. 4, 1945. Interestingly, my engine, which I believe to be original to the Jeep, has a casting date in January. I'm presuming that to be 1945, but I'm hoping to verify that once I have the Jeep back east and can remove the oil pan to see if there's an assembly date.

If anyone has a side shift case from August or September of '45 and is looking to trade for a November '45 case, feel free to drop me a line.

Sincerely,

John

Still working on electrical. I added two connectors to my Junction Box setup in the Rear so I have a way to plug in a pair of side marker lights I will have in the end of my Rear Crossmember. And since my Backup lights will be mounted to my Tire/gas can Pioneer tool swing away I needed a plug for that. Got the under dash lights and a couple other things finished up as well.  Today I'm going to get the Air line from the rear run up to the firewall manifold. And make sure all the zillions of loose wire ends are labeled.

Started to tear down my new project.  The tub is in extremely good condition with occasional rust, but very little rot.  Very excited.  I will be picking up a 4.3L engine today.  My thread is under Pope's 1949 CJ3A in the Your Jeep Project forum.

Putting the electric wiper motors on "Popeye" the Coast Guard Jeep.  Lots of adjustments required.  Drive shaft for the wiper blade hit the hood before the windshield hit the hood blocks. Shortened the drive shaft for the wiper blade, it still hit the hood so making new taller hood blocks.   Paint should be dry after lunch.

Yesterday we drove to Oregon City and I traded Zack (44bz) for a pair of axles. Today I am cleaning the years of dirt caked on.   Front axle is stamped 7-11-46 and the rear I can only make out 8-47.

I used my 48 to mow a field with a pull behind brush mower. I got a little over heated, but Scabby held steady at 180!

I’ve had a commando sitting on my trailer for over a month waiting on me to get time to mess with it. Today I pulled a bunch of small parts off and unloaded it from the trailer. Then started disconnecting stuff to pull the engine and finish stripping it.

Also, I went to harbor freight and bought a dual action electric polisher and started to compound the 2A. I’ve only done the cowl so far, but it made and incredible difference in the paint and now the old paint almost matches the new paint where I just finished repairs.

Great minds my friend (see pic above).

Had a minute over the weekend to get a parts jeep I got into the garage to disassemble.  Well I guess not much to dis assemble.  LOL.  Used my other jeep to put it in though.  Pulled the engine and will pull trans/ transfer and axles.  Frame is shot so no use there.

I also saw the date on the trans, it must have been meant to be.  Same month/day as my birthday.  We will see if I get lucky when I tear it down.

Actually yesterday evening, I finished the wiper install.  It took longer than expected, but it is good to have working wipers.

With all of the recent posts about battery cables and starters, I finally broke down and replaced my 2g +, and 1g- cables with 00.
It does spin fasterEmbarrassed.
Ordered online from Battetycablesusa.com, you pick cable size, color terminals, length and they show up in a few days at a very reasonable price. Under $45 for all 3 cables with shipping.

Another weekend of successful parts gathering. (Thanks Dennis!) I'm slowly crossing things off my list.

As best as I can tell, the transfer case is dated F 14 6, which I'm translating as June 14, 1946. It has the larger 1 1/8" intermediate shaft. I'm looking for transfer case from August or the first week of September 1945. If anyone has one and wants to trade, feel free to PM.

The head is dated 12 - 29, which I'm presuming to be December 29, 1944. If anyone has a head with an August or first week of September 1945 head and wants to trade, shoot me a PM.

Sincerely,

John

My gas gauge had been acting wonky, so I ordered a new sending unit. Tonight I put the tank back in with the new sending unit, then started the Jeep up for the first time in 2 months. Should be driving this weekend.

#13396 got a carb rebuild this week.

It needs a little bit of a tune up now, but it’s running real good.

My jeep loves the cool Fall air found in NW NJ!!

So, I’m looking forward to some nice rides in the Skylands Region of NJ to check out the fall foliage.
