To all,

I have a question for the correct speedometer for my 45 2A. The current speedometer has a white needle and where the needle attaches to the speedometer is painted black. The MPH ranges from 0-70, with no tac marks after the number seventy (70).

Should this year jeep have speedometer with a 0-60 MPH face with only the single mileage numbers on it ?

I am aware of the MB/GPW that has a trip mileage and a regular mileage on the face of the speedometer  and I am also aware of the later CJ speedometer that has tac marks after the number 70 on the face and the needle is painted all white.

Thanks for any assistance in this,

Frank

Believe the originals for a CJ2A are 0-60. Just had a knee replacement, or I would go take a picture of mine.

Old Pappy,

Thanks for the reply. Does your speedo only have the single mileage indicator in lieu of two mileage indicators like the WW II speedo has and what color is the needle?

Thanks again,

Frank

PS: I have been procrastinating about my needed knee replacement. I hope all goes well with yours!
I have been hobbling along with mine since my retirement from the fire service 21 years ago. Guess old age is finally catching up with me.

I can't get down to the barn to look, but I think it has a white needle and only one mileage odometer, which is what I assume you mean by "mileage indicator". My CJ2A is a 47.

I have one for a MB that also has a trip odometer, but it isn't an original.

Fred Caldwell is a expert on that and he has posted pictures of his speedos in his thread right here on the CJ2A page. Restoration of CJ2 -26. Take a look. Wink

Oilleaker1,

I have Fred's Preproduction Civilian Jeeps Book. Did a search in the book and could not find a good photo of the Speedometer et al.

Thanks for the help though,

Frank

On our ‘45 with original speedo(as far as I know), top speed is 73, needle and post are white. Odometer is 5 numbers plus 1/10ths.

If you want to search for Fred’s thread, you’ll need his correct name. Its Coldwell.

To all,

Thank you for helping me with this issue. Fred Coldwell responded to my inquiry. Now it is squared away.

All I have to do is find a 0-60 black face speedometer with no trip meter or luminous painted numbers like the WW II military jeeps have.

The catch is that the 0 and 60 are below the recorded mileage indicator on opposite side of the speedometer face. There are no tic marks below the number 60.

There are several 0-60 speedometers on different sites, but the 0-60 indicators are even with the mileage indicator, not below the mileage numbers. These speedometers appear to have some military designation code/numbers on the face below the mileage numbers.

The search will now begin,

If it helps, this is what I have in #11662. I believe it is original.

To all,

Thanks for the help on this. Maybe I can find one up in Albany, Oregon this year if they have the swap meet in the Fall/Winter.

Confirmation is nice as well.

So, I will plug along with the 0-70 Speedo for now.

Thanks to all for the help.

Now the Qwest begins,

Frank

There was discussion on this years ago... The 1945 and early 1946 2A's had a speedo of 0-60mph, with a single line of mileage numbers...

There were two manufacturers, King Seeley and Motometer...

And in two different variations: 1. Black background with white numbers, and white background with black numbers.....
