Also, it's not FIN but FM, for Federal-Mogul. Just for the trivia.

It has been quite a long time since an update on this project, however I have gotten some things done. The engine is out of the Jeep and new bearings are installed. I also have a whole heap of new parts ready to go into the Jeep. Hopefully I will be driving around in the fall.

That is quite a nice find and I hope you make your timing for driving this fall. I am trying to make that same timing.

Well I didn't end up driving it in fall, I spent my time mostly wheeling around in my MB. However I did make some progress. The engine is back in and all the wiring and lines are hooked up again. Also I installed the freshly powder coated seats and cleaned gas tank. Enough talk here are some pictures
Here is the jeep with those lovely powder coated seats. And here is the engine install in progress Edited by TateC - 02 Dec. 2019 at 6:53am |

A upcoming car show in Logan Utah finally gave me the push to get going on this CJ again. After installing a rebuilt starter and giving the Jeep a slug of gas down the carb she started right up. We had a little trouble with the fuel pump but we sorted that out. After adjusting the clutch I drove it back and forth and backed it into the garage to start work on the brakes, some transfer case seals, and new front knuckle seals. I had tried to post photos but failed. I will try again later |

I must give an update, the CJ made the car show along with the other Jeeps in the fleet. It was a long 2 weeks to make the show but we pulled it off.

Tate, you've got a cool collection of early jeeps. The '45 has got 'Grandpa's Jeep' patina--must be a Utah thing! Would love to see a few pics of your GP.

I just came across this thread. Very interesting. I have #11662, which is in about the same shape as yours, but not running. https://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/1945-cj2a-11662_topic44901.html
I'll look forward to updates as you post them.

I'm always glad to hear another one has survived and has a good home. I have been meaning to get around to updating this thread but have been lazy but I do have some progress to report. We drove it around for a while and it ran well but had poor oil pressure and in knocked on heavy acceleration so after the big car show in Logan, the CJ again fell under the knife and finally got some much needed attention and restoration Here are a couple of before shots from when we first purchased the CJ. And another before shot Luckily the block had no cracks and was rebuilt with no complications. Everything that bolts onto the engine was rebuilt, replaced, and refinished. New fuel lines and a new wiring harness made by forum member mogger7 were installed. I would highly recommend mogger7s harness for anyone in need of one. Unfortunately, there were a couple of issues with the rebuild that needed to be fixed with one being the bolts on the crank to flywheel where too short and the other being quite an odd issue with the first cylinder wrist pin, but fortunately the engine builders took responsibility for the issues and resolved them promptly and we've had no troubles since. Here's a shot of the CJ in the process on being loaded for its trip to the engine shop. Here's a shot of me at the wheel of the sort of finished project Naturally anyone who has ever done a jeep project knows they are never done but for now this little jeep is getting some good use and runs strong and all that ails its is the occasionally finicky column shift and a couple of leaks. I guess now I should finish up the PTO system for it. I can't thank the CJ2A page enough for all the helpful info on this project and for good info for many other projects. Sorry of some of the photos are goofy sized, whats a good size for photos on here? I did 300x350 Edited by TateC - 30 Apr. 2020 at 5:27am |
