I think it will be to my favor that this Jeep hasn't been registered in so long and there likely is no record of it in the DMV system at this point.  The license plate matches the title, but plates can be swapped so easily I doubt that proves anything.

I couldn’t find in your posts if the previous registration was in Oregon or not may have missed it?
If the old title is a Oregon title no Vin inspection is required.
Just walk in with the old title and have it switched over to your name. Clap
If it’s a out of state title, a vin inspection is required. Ouch
If you don’t want to haul it in to the DMV you can pay to have a state trooper come inspect the vin.
The easiest thing to do is buy new data tags and stamp them to match your old titleWink

Yep what you have is a Valid title what you don't have is a tag with that number on it. Go to Walcks or your favorite Jeep parts place and buy a couple of the tags then go to Harbor Freight (on line if you have to) and buy some Number letter stamps the right size (a google search will show you photos of original plates with numbers stamped on them) and replace the missing plates using the numbers on your title.

I plan on having a full set of tags made for CHUG by the guy in the Netherlands that makes perfect reproductions the set of two firewall plates and a new Dash Plate with my Titles numbers in perfect Willys stamp style will run me $75.00 to my door.

That's perfect.  I do have a signed Oregon title so transferring the title into my name shouldn't be an issue.  I was mostly concerned about the title not matching the numbers on the Jeep, but you guys solved that problemClap

And like was mentioned in another post.
The less information you tell the DMV the better!
They only need to fill in there check box’s, sometimes to much info is a bad thing Shocked

Don’t forget to bring proof of insurance To the DMV.

You could just stamp your title numbers on whatever engine you use.

Good luck

I met Rich from R&P 4wd this morning and brought home a new windshield and tailgate.  The inner frame is a little warped I think because I can't get the hinge(?) above the glass to fully seat into the outer frame.  But it's way better than what I had and for $100 I think I did alright.

I also opened up the v6 this week.  I think it's a Buick 198, which is what the rear block number indicates, but I found a 2bbl intake on it.  I was expecting a 1bbl.  Also found three bent pushrods, but the pistons and valves don't have any noticeable damage so I'm still investigating.  I haven't dropped the oil pan or pulled the timing cover yet.

so I pulled the motor out

Still can’t get it to turn. Next step is to remove the pistons an crank until I can figure out what the deal is.

I brought home home two more windshields and part of a 3b.

Finally uploaded some photos of my progress.  I have the partial 3b tub trimmed down to just the wheelhouses and the bed floor.  It's in much better shape than what I had, but still needed some rehab work.  I'm now ready to rebuild the tailgate opening with new pieces from Walcks.

I also found a super straight tailgate.  It was stripped to bare metal and put on a shelf so it needs a wire wheel treatment.

I've been working on the body some.  Replaced the passenger side front panel.  The floors and braces have been replaced and I have new tub sides to go on once the I'm finished prepping the 3b floor and wheelhouses.

Poly body mounts and new hardware as well.

The original rear crossmember was twisted and broken on the driver side so I swapped it with a new one from Walcks, but was disappointed to find none of the holes lined up exactly.

I've been acquiring lots of parts also.  I found a hardtop, doors, and windshield frame locally.

Roll cage I pulled out of a 3a.

Belleview winch that needs some work, but it was free.

I managed to get the Buick 198 unstuck and mostly reassembled.  I haven't decided if I'm going to use it or not though.  I am curious if it will run.  I opened up the T90 and D18, both of which had water in them and the trans gears look way better than I feared they might.

Not really sure. Maybe the photo is too big?  I have had that happened before so now I crop all my photos and it hasn't happened since.

44bz:

I picked up a 350 buick for a '71 Gladiator last year. I am hoping to refurb the engine this summer. The engine is "supposed" to be a runner.
Once I find the window of time to dive in, then I will know more once I get the 350 disassembled.

Did you get your V-6 shortblock freshened up yet ?

The Gladiator was a HUGE modernization from the old flatfender Jeep trucks.  Ford, Chevy, and Dodge pickups from the same year as the original Jeep Gladiator look really OLD in comparison.
There's a reason it's called Ol' Unreliable
