I scored a set of Buick 225 headers for free awhile back.  I had to grind away some material from the flange for them to fit because of the lower head bolts but it they're good now.

Also worked on some after market 225 motor mounts I found for cheap.  This is the driver side.  The passenger side also needed some finesse to fit, but not quite as much.

I've been continuing with the body work and collecting parts.  I have new seat cushions coming for my passenger frame.  I scored a Dana 25 with tie rod and drag link for when I add a Saginaw steering box plus 11" brakes upgrade and found Dana 44 out of a 3a for $50!  Making progress.

It's been a little while since my last update, but I'm still making progress.  The Rancho springs are installed and the new axles are in.

I've been rebuilding the transmission, which is almost ready and the Dana 18 is next.
I also have a Buick 225 now that needs cleaned up and I have to decided whether to go with the new to me 225 or the 198 that came with the flattie.  I replaced the passenger sider frame horn with an after market piece.
The original frame horn had clearly been repaired before and there was a decent amount of rust where the original crossmember fitted in so it seemed like replacement was the best and safest option.
I've also started painting.  The jeep was originally pasture green, but green just isn't my color and the original green was mostly non existent anyway.  Some one had repainted it a dark blue at one point.  I decided I liked the Normandy Blue color, but I'm not doing body work so it didn't make sense to spend a bunch of money on paint.  The end result is Rustoleum Navy Blue.  I like it so far.

Everything looks great Thumbs Up  The rustoleum blue has given me food for thought when the time comes Wink

Given a choice I'd have to go 225... 198 is just too much one off oddball for me

Thanks guys!  I still have some work to do on that frame horn - I plan to plate over the seam for insurance.  The Navy Blue has really grown on me.  I was reluctant to do spray paint, but ultimately figured I might as well give it a shot.  The grill, hood, fenders, and tailgate are all original and have 70 years worth of character.  I've fixed the rust and welded up holes, but I didn't want to get into bondo or spending money on new repro parts if I didn't have to so investing a bunch of money in paint seemed unreasonable.

The 198 is the cleaned up motor and ready to go.  I still don't know if it'll run, but it was amazingly clean inside.  The 225 is stuck and I don't know how bad yet or how much work it'll take to bring back.  I've only managed to remove all the accessories so far and spray two cans of oven cleaner on it to remove most of the grime, grease, and oil...but the 225 was "donated" to the project so I'm into it anything yet.  Got nothing to lose!

Yeah... needing to be cleaned up and being stuck are slightly different animals, lol.  Still, I'd give it a good look before I set it aside, but that's me.

From Novack:

The 1961-63 198 CID engines should be avoided as no parts from 1964 and newer engines interchange. Additionally, the difficulty in finding parts for these should deter one from making this choice.

FWIW...

The 198 is what came with the jeep when I bought it so I worked with what I had.  I brought home the 225 a couple weeks ago.  So far I've poured about 2/3 bottle of Marvel Mystery's Oil down the spark plug holes and it's been sitting for 10 days or so.  The motor came out of a jeepster that was sitting for a good while, then got pulled and palleted, and stored in the previous owner's shop.  It was still full of oil.  I'm hoping it won't take much to get it turning smoothly.

I like the navy blue Rust-Oleum too, but when I wanted to get some a couple years ago, nobody had it.  I haven't looked lately, but I still wonder why it was not around when I wanted it.

I've been getting it at Home Depot, $4.40 per can.

I'm not a big fan of Home Depot.  It's a long story.

The data tag says Pentagon Mfg.  I got it off a 48 2a, but the seller had no history for it.  The rear bow pockets interfere so the top cant sit all the way down on the tub rails.  I'm also missing the inner windshield frame and for some reason the hinges on the driver side door don't line up with the hinges on the top itself.  Otherwise it fits quite well.  I'm not sure if I'll keep it or not yet.
