Hello fellow CJ2A enthusiasts, Trying to find support for my decision.... :) A year after my previous questions asked about the purchase of a CJ2A I am back again. I lost the previous opportunity but this time around I have secured a deal and will be picking up my 1947 CJ2A next week Friday. As mentioned previously I am from South Africa, and finding a decent Willys is very difficult. This time around I have found as original as you can get accept for the color change that was done from red (Luzon, I assume) to Beige. My plan is to take it back to Harvard Red or Picket Grey, final decisions pending. I guess original color still the best to go for future value? This is a '47 CJ2A, with original engine and it runs smoothly. Engine haven't been opened, just normal and basic services. It drives and I have personally taken it for a ride. Papers all available and on the road, roadworthy done. Buying from 2nd owner since new, original invoice comes with it, plus original owners manual. Comes with PTO, A-Frame and original Plough as well as 3 spare rims. Buying in $ value at around $15,500 for it. I see this as a good deal, especially if you are an enthusiast like me who grew up with a Willys and is just totally in love with this vehicle. Your views please. |

It looks to be a very nice purchase and has a PTO still installed. You should enjoy it for years to come. The tire rack has my curiosity and I vote for Picket Grey.

Thanks for the feedback and “support” to justify my purchase…
Yes, I lean towards the Picket Grey with Harvard Red rims.

I think it looks great and personally love the color even if it's not original. It sounds like you already have future plans of selling it down the road, if that's the case, I'd just drive it the way it is, then when you decide to sell it, give it a fresh, original color paint job then.
Assuming you don't hate the color it is right now. Either way, nice purchase!

That is a nice rig. You paint it whatever color suits you. I like what it has now, but I also like the Picket Grey with Harvard Red rims. If it were mine, being the lazy fart that I am, I would drive it as is. I think that the idea of driving it as is now, & then painting it the original color when you choose to sell it has a lot of merit. That way when you ding it up, those dings can be fixed just before the paint job. You are going to drive it eh?

Nice clean survivor! I assume this one was built overseas by Willys with an export contract? Or was it built in the US?

This is part of my project to research absolute detail such as manufacturing location and details like that. Although papers indicate ‘47, it does look like a 48 on serial number.

Appreciate the feedback, thank you. I plan to keep it as an “investment” and will have my boys fight for it later.
Still deciding on colour. Very confused. But this one pull my attention. |

Thank you, appreciate the feedback. No, I do not have plans to sell it soon. Will keep the updates coming once it is in my garage.

You might like to keep the tan color and add new tires and paint the wheels like mine. I like the color combination. |

Very nice looking 2A 👍🏽….. Personally I would re-paint the wheels and leave the tan paint, looks to be about the same tan as Willys used ?. I see it retains the PTO controller but I see nothing on the back, did the shaft & rear box come with it ?.

Anything, including old jeeps and vintage cars, is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Income and assets vary from person to person, so it's all relative. If it's worth 15,000 to you and you have the funds, buy it. Even if it doesn't increase in value before you pass it on, the fun factor will likely make up the difference.

Starting to lean towards exactly thus idea. Seeing that it will have a long stay with me, One can always do a colour change after a few years of enjoying the little beast. I do like the burnt orange and tan/beige combo.
