Can you tell me a little more how you found it? Was it part of your families, or did you find it listed on-line? Where did you find that treasure Wink

Absolutely love it Smile... my ocd would mandate that I halt that rust, though... not sure that manifests itself with wd40, fluid film, satin clear or what, but I wish I had that decision.

SWEEEEEET!! & a Lefty to boot!
I had my buddy in Austin looking all over Texas for a LOW Rust 2A for me back when I found my Luzon Red 48 back in 2005. This little jewel was hiding waiting for you! Congrats Sir.
Welcome to the page and good luck with this great find.

I found it online and it had just been listed.  I called the guy and he said come get it.  So I loaded the trailer and away we went. I knew the minute I saw it, I was loading it.  It was in the Hill Country near Blanco, Tx.

JDK76,

Welcome to the CJ2A page!  And it is a Lefty!  Very cool.

Can you post a picture or two of the engine compartment?  I would love to see the horn, generator, voltage regulator.  It would also be nice to see shot of the dash and the carburetor.

From the pictures you posted, the rear draw bar is an earlier style draw bar than is found on most 1948s.  This could have been add by a local dealer who had an older one in stock.

Dose the tail gate have a number stamped on it along the passengers side of the tail gate?

Great looking 1948 .

Its a time warp, leave it alone. Replace only important structural stuff only if its going to fail.

I fully restored mine, wish I never had too but it was in my case, in yours its not

Happy Black Jeeping.

Thanks!

Yes, the tailgate is stamped with the same number as the tub. 169006.

I will get some more pictures posted of the engine soon.  I will also shoot a pic of the dash and the carb.

JDK76,

Also can you post a picture of the clutch and brake pedals.  There seems to have been transition in the pedals from smooth to a diamond pattern at some point in the production - They seem to appear on some of the CJ2As in 1948 from what I have seen.

The bolts are marked TR for the mid 1948 year production.  I am assuming your is an early Lefty base on the number - what is letter marks on the bolts?  There are probably several different bolts markings on various bolts.

Great find! So much potential. But I'll take the contrarian view: rust = deterioration. What are you going to do, continually rub the oxidation with WD-40? Spray the jeep in clear coat?
If you're going to pull the tub to repair the hat channels, it's not that much more work to sand and/or blast it, prime it and paint it nice shiny black. Or any color you like.
