I put my CJ2A project on the back burner when I found this truck. I don’t plan on a restoration, more of an old ratty truck with new running gear. I have a fresh motor trans and t-case to put in it, some minor body work and I hope to have it on the road in the spring. As we all know these types of projects go according to plan... Here is the motor, tranny and t-case that I rebuilt last year. The truck needs rockers and floors welded in and I need to find a bench seat for it if anyone has a suggestion of where I can find one. Other than the fenders the body is straight. Oh and one more story, truck didn’t have a tailgate when I bought it. When I got it home I remembered there was Willys tailgate hanging in the garage that I had bought for $10 on the side of the road back in high school, just thought it was cool looking never had a plan other than to let it hang there. Well wouldn’t you know it, for my new truck, even the same color!! Edited by chassis23 - 30 Oct. 2013 at 3:53pm |

Nice looking truck!
I will hide your duplicate thread in the CJ-2A Discussion area just to prevent confusion. |

O.K., I still like the matching patina, though!
Looks like it has always been with the truck! Edited by kilroy - 30 Oct. 2013 at 4:11pm |

Nice project, I am in the same boat but I promised myself to finish my 47 2a before starting on the 48 Willys truck.
Is your truck the the early 50? That is the year that in mid year that Willys made a few changes. I will be watching for post on this build. JIM |

yea I think it's a late 50, though I’m not 100% on what the changes were. I have read something about seats, the first couple of years they made a split bench that was adjustable I guess (boy would that be nice!). I am still trying to figure out what to do for a seat, I want a bench but I am not able to track an original down. Oh well, that is getting way too far ahead of myself. |

Your gauge cluster will tell u a lot. But your tool box says late 50 if not 51. I might know of a seat but the owner wants to sell the truck not just the parts. ( truck is 48 and in my opinion not worth saving time and money wise. Cab is rotten frame is trash box is beat. Block is cracked. The list goes on). If you look at my build I think I show my seat enough if not I have more pictures of it.

In March of 1950 (1950 1/2 ) Willys changed to the pointed grill and F head engine also. What does your gauge cluster look like?
JIM Make a note when it comes time for the parts to check with Larry Sheets at Mid West Willys for the hard to find items Edited by WeeWilly - 30 Oct. 2013 at 8:34pm |

Alright that is what I thought. This has the beak style grill, speedo is large and centered with the other four gauges in a line under it with art-deco trim around them. This truck was just a rolling chassis and I had a fresh L134 so that is what it’s getting for a power plant. Was the F-head an option or was that the standard in 1950? Thanks for the line on parts, always good to have a few contacts. |

Schimms15, I have been looking at your build. I actually bought this truck by you in Green Bay. Very nice pretty up there, long drive from Lansing and back in one day though. If you friend would be interested in selling the seat please let me know. My brother is at Great Lakes Navy Academy so I drive over there fairly often. Thanks again for the help. |

According to the book that I have ( Willys America) it was a change from the L head to the F head in march of 1950.

HI Chassis23
I have a CJ2A also on the back burner too...
Wow...I love these old Willys trucks...I am in the process of doing one over as we speak(it is like a 1960 ish). Mine is gonna be sitting on 1991 S10 chassis. Wonderful looking old vehicles. If you leave it looking like it does now that would be so cool ( I am a patina hound for sure).
Please keep posting up pictures. I may have post my build up here too.
