Dana 18 bushing install with homemade bushing installation tool that started as a 5/8 x 4-1/2" grade 5 bolt. Drilled and tapped for a 3/8" bolt plus washers to control the depth of the new bushing.

Looking good. I'm still following this closely as I have a couple of SM465s heading into my '55 CJ5 and then the 2a.

I was wondering when you were getting to the Mercruiser part. Does either of the engines have flywheels on them? Do the flywheels have threaded holes for a pressure plate?

Both are complete with flywheels and the marine bellhousings are still on them. I've been wondering the same thing but haven't had time to check yet.

The reason I asked about the flywheels was when I got my Mercruiser engine from the boat yard, it had a heavy, thick flywheel that had a flat surface but no threaded holes to bolt a pressure plate on with. I stupidly tossed it in the scrap pile because I didn't feel that I could drill & tap accurately enough to do them myself. I used a small block Chev flywheel instead.

I have seen some OMC versions of this engine that had drilled flywheels- not sure what how those are spec'd. I'm thinking I may reach out to the boat yard and see if they have some of the boat flywheels, maybe they'll have the heavy ones with holes.

Second to the original engine, I like the Chevy four banger best. Do you think you can mount it so the hood doesn't have to have a hole cut in it ?

Here's what I found. 6 drilled and tapped holes around the edge of the flywheel, it's about 1.5" thick and weighs 30lbs.

It's not really any bigger than the flathead. All the marine parts that are coming off add to its size so it should fit nicely under the hood.

I have the chevy 153, (same block as the 2.5 and 3.0 Mercruisers), in my CJ2a and it fits just fine.  No hood modification needed. At some point I'm planning to lower the radiator a couple of inches as the bottom third of the fan is below the bottom of the radiator as it sits now.

That fits nicely, I'm keeping my stock radiator for now but I might try a smaller aluminum radiator later.
What flywheel are you running behind the 153? I'm not sure what clutch size I need but it looks like all I have to do is get the boat flywheel surfaced and find a clutch that fits.
