Bought a future project for my Mrs for her Birthday as the Subject is titled 1962 Willys Station Wagon.
I'm not at all knowledgeable on the Wagons but the title says L6226 which I assumed is based on the motor (missing). It has the Maverick Style Missile Trim but Paul Barry says its not a Maverick and that only 52 were produced with this engine that year (which is kinda cool). Side shift T-90 was in the back and the 80/20 seats front and rear are there. All four brakes locked up solid and rear springs broken on either sides of the axle on both sides which made loading and unloading on a roll back a real treat. Used my axle hub puller and forced off the rears with little effort of the impact gun. Door Panel cleaned up pretty nice, so need some TLC and a lot of elbow grease to clean the interior and will need some major work on the tail gate rust and hinge. Need some temporary rear springs so I can roll this around easier anyone know of anything modern that fits in the interim? |

Hello Art,
That brings back memories for me! It only took me 9 years to do the restoration on my '53 wagon. I wish you well on the restoration and it looks like some good bones as well. Looking forward to seeing this in the project section. George (Tumbleweed)

Art,
Why does Paul not think its a Maverick?? I have to disagree with him this one . It screams Maverick to me. It has the right serial number 58167. The missile trim, the gold overlay around the speedo and the single pane windshield. The interesting thing is the column shift. I thought the sixes had floor shifts. Very interesting and a cool find. I just don't know anything about the Wagons but its it pretty cool looking. Quote from the emails with Paul "some folks mistakenly will call it a "Maverick" due to the trim. The chrome trim is often called "missile chrome" as it resembles a rocket/missile." "Maverick officially stops with that new trim, the sponsorship of the TV show ends with a Hollywood writers and actors strike, and since James Garner was the president of screen actors guild and had not been paid for a year for his time on Maverick, he leaves the show." Willys continued the 58167 serial sequence when they began producing this model again. |

Art,
Ok, I see what he means. So I guess this is technically a 'Utility Wagon' but has the same traits as a Maverick. Its still as pretty rare bird for the year with that engine. Bill
