I need ideas for a throttle cable and wondering what you all have done. I was going to use a universal Lokar bracket and cable; however, when I cut the cable to fit I quickly realized would not be enough room to route the cable. I'm running a Holley 390cfm on an Offenhauser 4bbl intake. Any ideas or examples of what has worked would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what you’re using to actuate the cable, but I used a cable from a S-10 truck.

I'm using a firewall mounted pedal out of a fullsize jeep.

This is how I used the S-10 cable:
Crooked photo but you get the idea.

Connects to the throttle body with factory hardware. May not be the same for your carburetor.

Here’s the pedal I’m using:
I need to keep fiddling with it but when I was routing the throttle cable yesterday it appeared there wasn’t enough room between the firewall and cable bracket to get the cable in without binding.

When I put the v6 in my 3b I used the Lokar cable, drilled a hole in the firewall and hooked it up to the factory v6 pedal setup. My cable was long as well and I just make a nice loop in it and it worked great.
For the Carb I used one of those carb. throttle linkage brackets that mounts between the intake and the carb. FYI I had a holley 390 on mine for years and it never worked great. All kinds of messing around with it over the years and it was never right. I just converted over to EFI and absolutely love it. Another thought. I'm not sure what size fuel line you ran but I have my stock under seat tank and ran a 1/4" fuel line. I always wondered if it was two small for the v6. When I went with EFI I drilled out the hole in the tank a little and then used a 1/4 to 5/16" adapter and ran 5/16 fuel line this time. It works well. Edited by windyhill - 19 Sep. 2021 at 4:11pm |

Thanks for the tips. I still have the under seat tank with 1/4" line currently. It's all new, but I haven't fired the engine yet so I don't know how it will do with the v6. I have a Holley 600cfm on my J2000 that was mostly good to go out of the box, which is what I am hoping for from the 390. Time will tell I suppose.
