I wrote them an email but I have not heard back. The girls name we talked to last year was Emily. Perhaps some of you Facebookers can contact them on FB. Maybe they remember us. IDK.

Well I heard back from Southington already!  They have a Police Team out (whatever that means!) on the 20th of May, but we could wheel on the lake side of the property.  That weekend they have a Spartan Obstacle race ( a foot race), but they said they can make something work.
What do we do now?

Nice that you heard from them so quickly.

The main part of the park also serves as a huge shooting range.  They do a lot of training there,  including police groups.

The lake side of the park has less obstacles,  but could still be fun.   I thought I had a map of the park,  but could not find it quickly.   This is satellite view.

"Red" sounds like it would be unavailable,   "blue" is what I think they would be allowing us on.  There are some natural and man-made obstacles,  and some sand to tear around in.

That sounds realy promising!  The police will probably using the gun ranges in the north section to work on their marksmanship so that side will be closed.  I remember there being some fun stuff to wheel in the south (Lake) section.  Some rock and concrete obstacles, hill climbs and a deep mud hole for anyone so inclined. I'm in! (except for the mud hole)

From our pre-run trip last year  . . .   this is some video of the "lake side"

Starting approx 10:50

https://youtu.be/xbWt7TdnFnI?t=652

We did not explore any of the sand,  that might be something different.

Here is what we did last year when we were there, and their map. I don’t know of one that was any better.

I’m sure once we get in the gate, they will work with us. The one fella, (can’t remember his name), seemed to be pretty excited about us coming.

I haven’t heard back yet. Perhaps you guys can get a phone number or details on how we make his happen.

The name Dave sticks in my mind as the staffer who hung out with us some?

Hi Bob,  I spoke with Jeff earlier tonite.  I am less than an hour from Southington and offered to go there in person on their next event weekend (April 2) to make arrangements if necessary.  Also I'm planning to test drive a route of backroads to keep us slow flatfenders off busy Rt. 82 for those who want to drive it rather than trailer.  It's only 22 miles from the hotel to the offroad park.  Let me know what's happening and if they want a local contact.  I'll PM you my cell.

Thanks!

I wish I could say I knew something, but I haven't heard anything in about 2 weeks.  I gave both Jeff's and Barry's info to the person who contacted me, but no response since.

Last night I drove to Southington to try to make arrangements in person since this is an event weekend for them.  I got to see Emily again and meet Cheryl who takes care of scheduling.  They were both gracious and welcoming and went out of their way to accommodate our group on days not open to the public.  So, the arrangements are:  We can wheel on Thursday May 20 in the south section ONLY,  due to activity on the gun ranges in the north section.  We must enter off Rt. 82 and check in with Cheryl at the holster shop.  The address for your GPS is 10025 State Rt. 82 Windham, OH  44288.  It is just a driveway and easy to miss so here is a photo.  Look for the “truck entrance” sign.

They asked about times and numbers so I just guessed at 11am to 5pm and 12 to 20 jeeps.  They can be flexible but would like to have an idea ahead of time.  Please post your plans here so I can update with them.  Everyone MUST sign a waiver ahead of time – I’ve included a link.

http://www.southingtonoffroad.com/rules---waiver.html

Cost is $25.00 per driver.

If anyone would like to wheel on Friday May 21, they could use both the north and south sections.  Again, please post your plans so I can let them know.  On Friday you would have to enter from their normal entrance at 10321 Silica Sand Rd. Garrettsville OH, 44231.  Again, not much signage so here is a photo of the entrance.

I scouted 2 routes from place to place.  Southington Off Road Park is only 22 miles east of the Bertram Inn.  Rt.82 is a heavily traveled 2 lane and the way to go if you’re able to travel at highway speed or are towing a trailer.  If you want a more leisurely trip, Pioneer Trail Rd. is a rolling back road that runs parallel and just south of Rt. 82, and is perfect for Willys speed.

For anyone who wants to clean their jeep up after wheeling, there is a 3 bay manual car wash right on the way in Garrettsville at the corner of Rt. 82 and Liberty St. behind the bowling alley.  There are 2 more car washes in Aurora not far from the hotel.

For those who wheeled last year and remember Dave from the park who hung out with us some, I put out the invite hoping he will wheel with us.  If he’s with us he might be able to take us up to the the north area away from the active ranges or at least up the rock garden where we camped.
