Now I like that! A go devil delivered by a Willys. Can get any better than that. When are you getting a Willys pickup Jeff? LOL John

And here comes Joe just in time, with the new original reconditioned New Old Heart for "General WILLYS".
Nice job and classy delivery vehicle Joe.

Nice job Joe and Jeff Beer

Jeff,

I noticed you used straps to drop the engine back in, how did that work? I was going to handle my swap as you did yours.

I don't have an engine hoist or access to one so it looks like hanging a chain fall from a beam will be what I have to work with.

Have fun

I have no problem with the strap. I'd prefer to use them rather than loosen a head bolt to use a chain. I just have a come along attached to the roof support of a steel building.

This is what I saw at the airport in Rockford on my way home:

Took GW on a short scoot. All systems functioning. Oil pressure might be a little high when cruising so I may need to remove a shim as Joe suggested. It was very hot today. (Too hot to be installing an engine), but its all done now. I'll drive him to church tomorrow which is a 26 mile round trip.   As soon as I repair my ebrake cable, I'll be ready for Colorado.

Once again, thanks to Joe for a fantastic job . GW is very happy to be numbers matching again!   All y'all come to Jeff City and check out this awesome rebuild!

So Jpet

You said GW was now number matching???....does that mean that the new motor is actually the motor that came in your GW Jeep??

Just wondering that's all...

It sounds awesome from the video...thanks for sharing...Oh yeah did you do the install it alone or did you get an extra pair hands to help out??

Yup. Gen'l Willys is number 29110 and the engine number is 29160. the transmission, front and rear axles all have April 1946 assembly stamp dates so as far as I'm concerned, the entire drive train is original.

Yup. I installed it by myself.

Today, I drove my 26 miles. Runs great. More power up hill. Quiet. No smoke. No smell except for the smell of new engine paint baking. After the engine is thoroughly warmed up, I have about 50 lbs of oil pressure at 40 mph (in overdrive). 20 at idle.

Great to hear the General is back in fine health again! I think both the jeep and the owner have a little energizer bunny in their genes....Wink

JPET-

Don't mess with the oil pump. Mine has had those same readings for 20 years... Sounds like Joe D did a perfect job.

Yes but if I cruise over 40 mph I don't want 60 lbs of oil pressure do I? I'm sure the engine would be fine but won't that much constant pressure cause the oil to blow past the seals?

I've never had an issue with 60 PSI at speed. Heck, one of my new TRW oil pumps was 60 at idle for the first few months. I would keep spare oil lines with the Jeep though. (depending on who made yours)
